Chapter 02: At Odds

Luo An and Chu Jin had been at odds since childhood.

At first, being the same age and living nearby, they often played together. However, even if Chu Jin spent a day climbing trees and catching loaches with him, he could still rank first in their grade the next day.

Young Master Luo An felt indignant, always suspecting Chu Jin of secretly studying hard while he was dreaming of pancakes.

This sowed the seeds of their rivalry.

It got worse when they entered university and fell for the same person. To make matters worse, that bastard Chu Jin even stole the love letter Luo An had painstakingly written!

Luo An grew angrier, constantly looking to antagonize Chu Jin.

But now, seeing Chu Jin’s cold face towards the intruder, Luo An felt a rare moment of happiness.

“Jin-ge, I’m sorry,” the intruder said, eyes reddening at Chu Jin’s cold words, seemingly on the verge of tears.

Luo An’s fair skin would show a slight redness at the corners of his eyes when emotional. The intruder had studied all possible expressions of the original host’s face upon possessing this body.

Now, the intruder tilted his head at just the right angle. He knew that from Chu Jin’s height, this view of the original host’s reddened eyes would be most pitiful.

“I said, get out of the way.” Unfortunately, Chu Jin remained unmoved. Not only unmoved, but his face grew even colder as he turned to leave.

As he spoke, Chu Jin’s eyes seemed to conceal a tempest, terrifyingly dark.

The intruder was scared by Chu Jin’s reaction, instinctively stepping back.

Luo An was also startled. Though he often provoked Chu Jin before, he had never seen him this angry.

Besides, the intruder hadn’t even provoked him this time.

Although it felt somewhat satisfying to see the intruder at a loss, realizing that Chu Jin’s hatred was likely directed at himself, Luo An couldn’t quite smile anymore.

However…

As if possessed, Luo An watched Chu Jin walk away, hesitated for two seconds, then followed.

Taking advantage of his invisibility to Chu Jin, Luo An toured the office like a king inspecting his domain. Given the frequent collaboration between the Chu and Luo families, coupled with Luo An’s troublemaking habit, he had visited Chu Jin’s office countless times before the soul swap.

But since the swap, especially in the first two years, Luo An had been bound near his body, unable to stray far from the intruder. In the third year, he could wander a bit further, but still no more than a hundred meters.

Recently, however, Luo An found his range of free movement had expanded significantly.

Chu Jin’s office remained largely unchanged from before.

A photo of him and Chu Jin, taken before the soul swap, still sat on the desk.

This photo was taken for business cooperation between the Chu and Luo families. Logically, it shouldn’t have been Luo An posing with Chu Jin, but Luo An happened to be there that day. The more Chu Jin disliked him, the more Luo An wanted to annoy him.

Luo An remembered Chu Jin standing beside him during the photo, his shoulders tense and straight.

“Hey,” Luo An had grinned, leaning in, “Why are you avoiding me?”

Chu Jin’s face remained expressionless. “I’m not.”

“Oh—” Luo An drawled, and before Chu Jin could react, pretended to stumble and leaned closer to him.

Chu Jin must have been irritated by this boundary-crossing behavior. His breath halted for a second, and he maintained a cold face for the rest of the shoot, not speaking another word to Luo An.

Luo An also found it uninteresting, so after the photo was taken, he kept his distance from Chu Jin.

Though Luo An didn’t understand why Chu Jin kept this photo, even framing it, he guessed that perhaps Chu Jin was so angry he wanted to forever remember that day’s “humiliation.”

Now, seeing the photo still on Chu Jin’s desk, Luo An’s mood improved slightly.

At least… this photo hadn’t been replaced.
