Chapter 05: Think I’m stupid, huh! I’m the genius Xiao Qu!

The following Saturday, Ning Guiqu didn’t rush to the library early in the morning as usual. Instead, he secretly observed Lu Yuan. He noticed that Lu Yuan also got up quickly after waking up. Lu Yuan didn’t initially pay much attention to this. After deactivating his account again at noon yesterday, he decided to stop focusing on Ning Guiqu.

As long as Ning Guiqu didn’t actively confess to him or say anything ambiguous, it was none of his concern. He only needed to treat Ning Guiqu as an ordinary roommate.

But now, Lu Yuan couldn’t ignore it.

After finishing his morning routine, Ning Guiqu asked him in an extremely low voice, “Where are you going?”

Lu Yuan changed his shoes and replied, “The library.”

Ning Guiqu crouched down, mindful of their other resting roommate, and kept his voice lowered, “I’m going too. Let’s go together. We can keep each other company, so you won’t be bored.”

Lu Yuan:?

Lu Yuan resumed his usual aloof demeanor, “No need.”

But because of yesterday’s “heart-to-heart” conversation with Lu Yuan, Ning Guiqu had already learned to push his luck, “We’re already friends. We’re just making progress together.”

Lu Yuan:?

When did he become friends with Ning Guiqu?

Lu Yuan was stunned into silence for a few seconds.

Seeing Lu Yuan’s lack of response, Ning Guiqu was even more elated. He knew it! Once you broke through the defenses of an aloof person, they became quite approachable!

Inexplicably, Lu Yuan found himself leaving with Ning Guiqu. After leaving, they went to the cafeteria, where Ning Guiqu even offered to treat him to breakfast. With such enthusiasm, Lu Yuan couldn’t help but feel that Ning Guiqu’s intentions weren’t pure.

However, Ning Guiqu’s alt account complaints didn’t show any hint of liking him. Lu Yuan decided not to overthink it; perhaps Ning Guiqu simply wanted to be friends with him.

The first-floor study room at Linhai University allowed quiet recitation. Lu Yuan went to the first-floor study room and placed his computer on the desk. Ning Guiqu sat next to Lu Yuan with a Chinese book.

Lu Yuan glanced at the book Ning Guiqu borrowed. Ning Guiqu was highly sensitive to Lu Yuan’s gaze and voluntarily explained, “I’m preparing to change majors in the future. I plan to switch to Chinese Language. I want to become an editor after graduation. I heard that editors work nine-to-five and have weekends off.”

Lu Yuan: “…….”

Lu Yuan, who was not very familiar with the editing profession himself, opened his computer and said, “You’ve certainly given it a lot of thought.”

Ning Guiqu was in high spirits at this moment. Lu Yuan was engaging with him again! It seemed there was no need to banish Lu Yuan to Antarctica after all.

Ning Guiqu said very calculatingly, “But now that you’re letting me join your company, I don’t need to change majors anymore. I’m just reading this casually.”

His calculation was this: to see if Lu Yuan would refute this statement. If he didn’t, it would mean he tacitly agreed to let Ning Guiqu join his company in the future!

Lu Yuan froze.

Although there were people reciting and chatting in the library’s study room, the overall volume was very low. Ning Guiqu’s voice wasn’t loud, but it was enough for the people in front of and behind Lu Yuan to hear.

Sure enough, the person sitting in front of Lu Yuan turned around and looked at him and Ning Guiqu with surprise.

Lu Yuan: “……”

Lu Yuan turned his head and explained in a low voice, “I don’t have a company!”

At this moment, Ning Guiqu only had eyes for Lu Yuan and was insensitive to his surroundings. He even praised Lu Yuan, saying, “You will have one, because you’re exceptional enough.”

As soon as Ning Guiqu finished speaking, they heard someone say, “Is Lu Yuan that amazing? Can I work there, too? I just want to see handsome guys every day.”

Ning Guiqu searched for the source of the voice, thinking that Lu Yuan’s company couldn’t afford to keep too many idle people.

Lu Yuan held his forehead. Thanks to Ning Guiqu, he just wanted to leave now!

What was wrong with Ning Guiqu? How did he never noticed before that Ning Guiqu could be so embarrassing? Lu Yuan even seriously recalled what Ning Guiqu was like in high school.

He remembered that Ning Guiqu was a study representative with good grades and a good public image. In their senior year, Ning Guiqu added him on WeChat and confessed, but after being rejected, he didn’t bother Lu Yuan in real life. Because their seats were far apart, Lu Yuan rarely paid attention to Ning Guiqu afterward.

Even after the college entrance exam, if Ning Guiqu hadn’t approached him, he would have almost forgotten that Ning Guiqu had ever confessed to him. So, Ning Guiqu had been very discreet.

By coincidence, they became roommates in university. Because Lu Yuan realized Ning Guiqu still had feelings for him, he treated Ning Guiqu coldly, hoping to discourage any romantic notions.

But he still didn’t pay much attention to Ning Guiqu.

So, indeed, he knew too little. He didn’t understand the real Ning Guiqu. The real Ning Guiqu should be like the one on the WeChat alt account.

And now, this current behavior.

He said he came to the library to study, but now he was sleeping face down.

Where was the studious class representative?

At least Lu Yuan’s ears got some peace and quiet.

Ning Guiqu slept until eleven o’clock. When he woke up, Lu Yuan was closing his laptop.

Ning Guiqu: “……..”

Damn it!

Ning Guiqu rubbed his eyes. It was all because that drama last night ran overtime, causing him to stay up late binge-watching! The ending where the female lead died upset him so much that he couldn’t fall asleep until the early hours.

After cursing inwardly, Ning Guiqu pretended it wasn’t him who had just been sleeping and turned to Lu Yuan with a perfectly measured smile, “Lu Yuan, are you heading back?”

Lu Yuan hummed in affirmation.

Lu Yuan packed his computer into his bag. Ning Guiqu quickly gathered his books and remarked, “The morning went by so fast. Lu Yuan, what are you having for lunch?”

Lu Yuan: “……”

Lu Yuan felt that Ning Guiqu was really a bit shameless. Indeed, he couldn’t engage with him at all.

It was true; back then, Ning Guiqu sent him ambiguous messages. If he hadn’t responded, it wouldn’t have escalated into a confession.

Lu Yuan rejected Ning Guiqu’s invitation. “I’m going back to the dorm first. You can go eat by yourself.”

Ning Guiqu carried his backpack and left the library with Lu Yuan, “No. Let’s go together.”

Lu Yuan glanced at Ning Guiqu.

Noticing Lu Yuan’s gaze, Ning Guiqu immediately flashed his signature smile and said gently, “It’s fine if I’m hungry for a while.”

Lu Yuan rubbed his brow. He couldn’t help but ask, “Have you always been like this?”

Ning Guiqu understood, Lu Yuan must have noticed his considerateness, right?

Ning Guiqu was inwardly pleased but outwardly calm, saying nonchalantly, “I’ve always been like this.”

After speaking, he took out his phone and started tapping the screen.

Lu Yuan again wanted to know what Ning Guiqu was posting. At a moment like this, was there anything worth complaining about?

But Lu Yuan wasn’t curious.

Lu Yuan did indeed return to the dorm first. The cafeteria was right in front of their dorm, but Lu Yuan bypassed it and walked towards the dorm. Ning Guiqu, maintaining his considerate image, had no choice but to accompany Lu Yuan to the dorm.

Of course, he was still tapping on his phone screen.

Lu Yuan continued to suppress his curiosity.

As they approached the dorm, Ning Guiqu and Lu Yuan were stopped by a senior student selling pens.

The senior, who was holding several boxes of pens, enthusiastically said to Lu Yuan, “Junior, want to buy a pen for your boyfriend to use?”

Lu Yuan:?

Ning Guiqu:!

Lu Yuan: “He’s not.”

Ning Guiqu also innocently explained, “I’m not.”

The senior made an “ah” sound, then smiled and said, “You two look really good together. I misunderstood. Well, Junior, want to buy a pen for yourself? Your senior is a bit tight on money lately. That’s why I’m selling pens. These are all good pens. I’ll give you a 20% discount if you buy. It’ll help ease your senior’s financial pressure, too?”

Lu Yuan had no intention of buying and turned to leave.

Ning Guiqu actually didn’t want to buy either, but suddenly had an idea. This was a chance to show Lu Yuan his kind side!

“Senior, I’ll buy them all,” Ning Guiqu deliberately said a bit loudly, ensuring that Lu Yuan, who had just walked away, could hear.

Lu Yuan heard it and stopped, turning back to look at Ning Guiqu in disbelief.

The senior’s face lit up with joy. After Ning Guiqu transferred the money, he handed over all five boxes of pens to him.

Ning Guiqu carried the five boxes of pens to Lu Yuan, “I can’t use this many. You take three boxes.”

Lu Yuan didn’t take them. As a roommate, he questioned, “Don’t you know he said those things just to trick you into buying?”

Of course, he knew!

Ning Guiqu replied considerately, “It must be hard for the senior to sell pens. These pens will be useful anyway.”

Lu Yuan’s eye twitched.

Ning Guiqu… under Lu Yuan’s gaze that seemed to view him as an idiot, his fair face slowly turned red.

Ning Guiqu’s palms were sweating, still holding a bunch of pens. But Lu Yuan seemed to be treating him like a fool.

Soon, Ning Guiqu’s entire face was red. He immediately gave Lu Yuan three boxes, then took his two boxes and ran off, leaving Lu Yuan behind.

Lu Yuan, now holding three boxes of pens, questioned his life choices.

Ning Guiqu must have some intelligence to get into Linhai University. Lu Yuan pretended he didn’t hear that earlier conversation. But Ning Guiqu’s face turned so red at the end, and considering the senior’s initial misunderstanding that he and Ning Guiqu were a couple…

Lu Yuan wondered, did Ning Guiqu buy the pens just because of that “boyfriend” comment?

Otherwise, Lu Yuan couldn’t understand Ning Guiqu’s intention in buying the pens. And saying those things… better not to mention it.

So, after returning to the dorm with three boxes of pens, Lu Yuan once again logged into the WeChat account he was about to deactivate. He wanted to peek into what Ning Guiqu was really thinking.

[You might not be hungry, but I am! Don’t you know that the body undergoes metabolism while resting? I slept all morning! I’m starving!]
[Couldn’t we have eaten first?]
[Hmph! You got lucky, seeing my considerate side.]
[I just wanted Lu Yuan to see how considerate I am! Why did it come out sounding so strange?]
[Why is buying pens strange? It’s totally normal behavior. Can’t I just feel sorry for the senior? Yes, genius Xiao Qu, just brainwash yourself like this.]
[Brainwashing successful. Lu Yuan is the real idiot.]

Lu Yuan: “……”

Lu Yuan was speechless.

Why was Ning Guiqu so funny?

But this time, Lu Yuan’s decision to cancel the deactivation didn’t seem to be in vain.

Ning Guiqu seemed to still have some feelings for him; otherwise, why would he want Lu Yuan to see his considerate side? Yet he didn’t hesitate to curse at him either.

It was this point that made Lu Yuan think Ning Guiqu had gotten over him.

Lu Yuan thought about it for a while. He felt he should continue to keep his distance from Ning Guiqu until he could be completely sure that Ning Guiqu didn’t like him. That being the case, he decided not to deactivate his alt account for now. It would be convenient for him to know Ning Guiqu’s true feelings at any time.

If Ning Guiqu directly expressed dislike for him on the alt account, it would probably mean he truly didn’t like him anymore.

Just as Lu Yuan was thinking this, Ning Guiqu’s voice came, “Lu Yuan, want to go out for food?”

Lu Yuan: “…….”

Reject him!

Lu Yuan said coolly, “I’m not hungry.” Even with an empty stomach, he had to keep his distance from Ning Guiqu.

Ning Guiqu replied gently, “Are you not hungry or just don’t want to go out? Should I bring something back for you?”

Lu Yuan, sitting at his desk, replied tersely, “Not hungry, no need.”

Ning Guiqu frowned.

Shi Wen, who was lying on his bed, saw an opportunity to interject, “Xiao Qu, bring me some beef noodles.”

Xiao Qu absent-mindedly responded, “Oh,” and lowered his head to use his phone.

The next second, Lu Yuan’s phone lit up.

[He really should be banished to Antarctica! Not hungry, my foot. I don’t believe it. He’s probably just too lazy to eat with me!]

Lu Yuan’s heart tightened.

[So annoying! Is eating together really that awful? Didn’t we just become friends? Is this how you treat friends? Think I’m stupid, huh! I’m the genius Xiao Qu!]

Although he didn’t directly say he “hated” him, Ning Guiqu seemed to be treating him as a friend.

Moreover, he hadn’t thought the genius Xiao Qu was stupid.

Lu Yuan felt a pang of guilt. He stood up and called out to Ning Guiqu, who had reached the door, appearing calm. “Let’s go together. I’m hungry again.”

Ning Guiqu:?

Shi Wen, who was still on his bed, reminded them again, “Xiao Qu, beef noodles.”

Xiao Qu gave an “OK” gesture.

Shi Wen was reassured.

Lu Yuan thought Ning Guiqu would complain about him this time, but his phone remained silent for a long while. Even while eating in the cafeteria, Lu Yuan checked his phone several times.

After checking several more times, his phone finally lit up as expected.

Lu Yuan’s eyes flickered slightly. It was from Ning Guiqu.

[Damn it, who stepped on my shoe? My white shoes! This is too much!]

Lu Yuan: “……”

Lu Yuan casually glanced down at Ning Guiqu’s shoes. There was an obvious black footprint on Ning Guiqu’s white shoe, standing out starkly.

Indeed, it was too much.
