Chapter 24.2: Throw Away the Love Brain

Throughout the evening self-study session, Lu Yuan didn’t once check his phone, fearing any messages from Ning Guiqu might disrupt his thoughts.

Lu Yuan brooded darkly over Ning Guiqu’s sarcastic message about throwing away his love brain.

Lu Yuan only just realized Ning Guiqu even had a love brain. Then again, he could probably fall passionately for anyone.

But now he wanted to throw it away!

The fickle Ning Guiqu had liked both him and Song Huai. Could it be that now that he couldn’t like Song Huai, he was abandoning his love brain entirely? What did that make Lu Yuan? Had Ning Guiqu’s feelings for him been so casual?

Such casual affection, yet it had lasted from high school to university?

What about Song Huai then?

Surely Ning Guiqu didn’t harbor feelings for Song Huai while liking him, too? Had he confessed to Song Huai secretly when he confessed to Lu Yuan? After all, both were WeChat confessions. He could have easily confessed his love to dozens and developed a relationship with whoever replied.

Lu Yuan: “…”

That couldn’t be. Given Ning Guiqu’s appearance, if he really confessed to dozens, he wouldn’t still be single. Song Huai only saw Ning Guiqu as his roommate.

Lu Yuan lowered his gaze to his textbook, the information not registering at all.

So why was he so fixated on whether Ning Guiqu liked Song Huai? If Ning Guiqu did like Song Huai, he should be relieved. That way, he wouldn’t have to worry about Ning Guiqu confessing to him, ruining even their chance at being roommates.

Besides, even if Ning Guiqu went to confess to Song Huai, that was Song Huai’s business. What right did he have to warn Ning Guiqu off?

By the time evening self-study was ending, Lu Yuan had finally figured it out. He wasn’t concerned about Song Huai’s feelings; he truly saw Ning Guiqu as a friend and didn’t want him to go astray. It was Ning Guiqu he cared about.

He must have genuinely accepted Ning Guiqu as a friend. He had many gay friends, and Ning Guiqu was just one more. But Lu Yuan felt it wasn’t that simple. He decided not to dwell on it, as the implications were more than he could handle. After self-study, Lu Yuan checked his phone, but Ning Guiqu hadn’t sent a single message to any of his accounts.

Maybe he fell asleep. Ning Guiqu was always a heavy sleeper.

Lu Yuan felt inexplicably annoyed yet puzzled by his own irritation.

Back at the dorm, Ning Guiqu wasn’t asleep but was watching videos.

Lu Yuan grew more displeased. He also noticed Ning Guiqu seemed to be avoiding him. Whenever their eyes met, Ning Guiqu quickly looked away.

Then he would play dead.

Lu Yuan: “…”

Lu Yuan thought his earlier interrogation had embarrassed Ning Guiqu. Ning Guiqu’s tendency to cry in secret showed he wasn’t that tough inside. Lu Yuan felt he should apologize.

So, Lu Yuan went out and bought a milk tea. He had noticed Ning Guiqu liked sweets. Returning, he tapped Ning Guiqu’s bed frame and offered the drink, meeting Ning Guiqu’s evasive eyes.

Ning Guiqu didn’t take it, looking surprised. “For me?”

Lu Yuan stiffly hummed. “I treated you a little badly earlier. This is an apology.”

Ning Guiqu felt a mix of emotions.

He didn’t think there was anything wrong with Lu Yuan’s attitude, but Lu Yuan actually reflected and bought him a drink.

Although the drink was inexpensive, the gesture was priceless.

Ning Guiqu had never met a friend like Lu Yuan, who seemed aloof but inwardly gentle.

Ah.

Ning Guiqu accepted it with a “thanks” but maintained his distance.

Naturally, Lu Yuan realized it wasn’t about his attitude. Ning Guiqu was deliberately avoiding him! Ning Guiqu still dodged eye contact immediately.

Since Ning Guiqu didn’t message his “alt account” either, Lu Yuan couldn’t understand Ning Guiqu’s intentions. Regardless, Ning Guiqu’s avoidance suited him fine. As a straight man, he indeed needed to keep his distance from Ning Guiqu!

Lu Yuan exuded coldness all over his body.

In that case, would Ning Guiqu still ask to sleep together tonight?

After all, the Li Mu situation wasn’t resolved. Although Lu Yuan thought Li Mu just needed discipline, he’d let Ning Guiqu handle it peacefully. Around eleven, Lu Yuan climbed into his own bed, keenly aware of Ning Guiqu’s movements.

Ning Guiqu was still watching TV with headphones, not calling out to him.

Lu Yuan settled into his bed, his gaze falling directly on Ning Guiqu, who sat hunched over on his own bed.

Ning Guiqu glanced up quietly, only to meet Lu Yuan’s stare. He quickly averted his gaze. After dodging, Ning Guiqu felt frustrated. Lu Yuan was the one sneaking looks at him; why did he feel guilty?

So Ning Guiqu looked back, but Lu Yuan had already laid down to rest.

Ning Guiqu sighed inwardly.

Li Mu’s issue remained unresolved, and he’d lost a friend. All because of that hateful protagonist gong!

Thus, Ning Guiqu posted his first rant of the night: [Stupid protagonist gong! Big idiot! Super big idiot!]

After cursing, he still felt unsettled.

He flopped onto his bed, feeling hopeless. Geniuses were destined for loneliness.

Unable to sleep, Lu Yuan checked his phone again. He saw Ning Guiqu’s rant.

Protagonist gong.

That was Song Huai.

Protagonist shou was Xu Zhi.

Lu Yuan pondered. So, in Ning Guiqu’s eyes, those two were a couple. Yet he only cursed the gong. The deeper the love, the deeper the hate.

Lu Yuan’s gaze casually fell on the line [Here, Genius Xiao Qu will forever throw away his love brain]

Lu Yuan’s teeth clenched in anger again. Ning Guiqu loved Song Huai so much that he’d abandon romance altogether since he couldn’t have him. Yet he’d dared to shamelessly confess to Lu Yuan in his rant account, claiming Lu Yuan as his. Gays were indeed fickle!

Then there was that [Lu Yuan, goodbye]

Combined with Ning Guiqu’s constant avoidance, Lu Yuan was certain his threat earlier had upset Ning Guiqu.

Conclusion: Ning Guiqu was madly in love with Song Huai.

And he, Lu Yuan, could once again confirm he was just a casual interest. After all, Song Huai wasn’t single, but he was. Lu Yuan speculated that Ning Guiqu might have known Song Huai since high school, but knowing Song Huai was taken, had settled for pursuing him instead.

Ning Guiqu’s pursuit of him, without letting anyone else know, now seemed less considerate and more likely that he didn’t want Song Huai to know.

Lu Yuan’s face darkened.

He looked up. Ning Guiqu was engrossed in his drama again.

Lu Yuan thought, good, he should keep his distance from such a fickle gay!

Feeling the intense gaze, Ning Guiqu suddenly looked up, intending to appear not guilty at all. But he timidly lowered his eyes again.

Lu Yuan’s stare was so scary!

Ning Guiqu poked at his phone once more.

Lu Yuan received it in real-time.

[What a scary Lu Yuan! Won’t provoke him anymore!]

Lu Yuan clenched his phone tightly.

He was scary??

Did Ning Guiqu think he was trying to break up a couple? What kind of couple were Ning Guiqu and Song Huai??

Lu Yuan didn’t know what Song Huai was, but Ning Guiqu was just a rabbit, a stupid, careless, fickle, and hateful ugly rabbit at that!

Lu Yuan fell asleep, filled with irritation.

He had a dream that night. He caught a plump rabbit. He grabbed it by the ears, intending to take it home to roast and eat. The rabbit struggled fiercely but was too weak to resist the strong human.

As Lu Yuan built a fire, holding the rabbit, the little creature lay belly-up in his arms, nuzzling his palm, seemingly begging not to be eaten. Lu Yuan thought this rabbit was quite docile, so he decided to take it home instead of eating it.

At home, the little rabbit jumped onto the bed and suddenly transformed into human form. It was a delicate-looking young man wearing a plain hoodie and jeans. In the dream, Lu Yuan vaguely felt this person looked familiar but couldn’t quite place him. The human-rabbit said, “Thank you for not eating me. I see you don’t have a wife; I can offer myself in marriage.”

Lu Yuan refused, “I’m straight.”

The rabbit said earnestly, “But I’m a rabbit. Straight men only dislike other men, but I’m not a man, I’m a male rabbit. It’s not like you can’t like rabbits.”

Lu Yuan was persuaded and was about to agree when suddenly he heard a ringing sound.

Lu Yuan’s eyes snapped open.

He faced the bright ceiling. He reached out to silence the alarm; it was 7 a.m. Lu Yuan got up, just as Ning Guiqu, rubbing his eyes, groggily climbed down the ladder from his bed.

Lu Yuan: “……”

What a nightmare.

The male rabbit was Ning Guiqu.

It was really quite ugly.

Lu Yuan tried hard to forget this absurd dream. Ning Guiqu went to the bathroom, washed his hands, and went back to sleep.

Ning Guiqu didn’t bother him all day again.

But in the rant account, Ning Guiqu’s presence was strong, with a bunch of “Goodbye, Lu Yuan” and “Super big idiot protagonist gong,” “Super big idiot Song Huai.”

In the rant account, Song Huai’s presence skyrocketed.

Lu Yuan couldn’t tell what he felt in his heart. Anyway, he was very uncomfortable. Among the messages was one that read: [Stupid Genius Xiao Qu]

When cursing, Ning Guiqu didn’t spare even himself.

Ning Guiqu didn’t curse himself for nothing.

As he spent the day alone in the dormitory to recover from his leg injury, his thoughts frequently drifted to Lu Yuan. In their brief time together, Ning Guiqu had already formed a deep, one-sided attachment to Lu Yuan. He thought that if the main couple went abroad after graduation, he could continue his association with Lu Yuan!

Ning Guiqu knew himself well. He couldn’t afford to study abroad. But if the main couple left the country, he wouldn’t have any interaction with them in four years.

Ning Guiqu had the WeChat contact of Xu Zhi, the protagonist shou. He sent Xu Zhi a message.

[Classmate Xu Zhi! I’d like to see Yuanyuan]
[Cute kitten holding a flower.jpg ]

Ning Guiqu used this excuse to contact Xu Zhi. Xu Zhi quickly replied.

[I took this last night. He’s at school now. He’s very lively. Do you want to come to my place to see him?]

Ning Guiqu wanted to agree, but he was afraid of running into the protagonist gong. That guy had caused the original owner immense suffering! And now he was the original owner.

Ning Guiqu regretfully declined: [I can’t. My leg’s been giving me trouble lately. Classmate Xu Zhi, do you have any plans to study abroad?]

Ning Guiqu took the opportunity to ask what he wanted to ask.

Xu Zhi answered seriously: [Probably not. I don’t have any close relatives abroad. I don’t have big ambitions. After graduation, I’ll just find a job to make a living.]

Ning Guiqu felt Xu Zhi’s thoughts aligned perfectly with his own!

However, while making a living wasn’t difficult these days, making a good living was too difficult. Ning Guiqu didn’t burden Xu Zhi with his anxieties about the future.

So, Ning Guiqu deliberately asked: [Does your boyfriend plan to study abroad?]

Xu Zhi’s reply came quickly: [Did Lu Yuan tell you that? When did he become such a gossip? You two must be getting along well]

Of course, Lu Yuan hadn’t told him that! He was a transmigrator who knew the future!

But his relationship with Lu Yuan…

Ning Guiqu’s mood grew heavy.

Xu Zhi’s next message arrived: [It’s up to him. If he wants to go abroad, he can. Why are you asking about this?]

Whatever the protagonist gong wanted.

Ning Guiqu felt this wasn’t right. The protagonist shou was too soft! No wonder the original owner could meddle in their relationship four years later!

Since Ning Guiqu had taken the initiative to bring this up with the protagonist shou, he naturally had an excuse prepared.

Ning Guiqu tapped at his phone: [I was wondering what would happen to Yuanyuan if you two went abroad]

How clever of Genius Xiao Qu!

The next second, Xu Zhi’s message arrived.

[Just because of what you said, even if we were planning to go abroad, we’d find a way not to!]

Ning Guiqu rubbed his eyes.

Xu Zhi sent another message: [Yuanyuan would be stressed from such a long journey, and I can’t bear to be apart from him now. He’s really so adorable. Classmate Ning Guiqu, thank you for giving us this cat. I promise you, we definitely won’t go abroad!]

Ning Guiqu completely broke down.

Damn it!

Genius Xiao Qu was also a super big idiot.
