Chapter 34: Can You Accept Being Life Partners with Me?

Lu Yuan returned with two portions of breakfast and noticed his two roommates sitting side by side, eyeing him suspiciously. He paid them no mind. If he and Ning Guiqu were together, Lu Yuan had no intention of hiding it from anyone.

Naturally, if Ning Guiqu rejected him, having more people know about it would probably save face for Ning Guiqu. Lu Yuan admitted he had been too cold towards Ning Guiqu in the past.

In high school, he coldly rejected him.

At graduation, he coldly gave Ning Guiqu his WeChat ID, only to change it immediately after.

In college, he told Ning Guiqu to stay away from him.

Multiple times after that, he used the excuse of being straight to keep Ning Guiqu at arm’s length. Considering all these incidents, Lu Yuan thought it would be normal if he was just a second choice. While he understood this, it still didn’t sit well with him.

Lu Yuan placed the breakfast on the table and went to wake Ning Guiqu.

Ning Guiqu slowly opened his eyes, his face still flushed, his gaze unfocused. “I have something to ask you.”

“Let’s eat first,” Lu Yuan replied.

As Ning Guiqu climbed down from the bed, he noticed the fish tank on his desk with several small fish swimming inside. These were the ones he had caught last night.

He had absolutely no recollection of it!

Ning Guiqu glared resentfully at the two sitting side by side before going to wash up.

Shi Wen: ?

Jiang Xu: ?

While Ning Guiqu was brushing his teeth, Shi Wen approached him tentatively and called out, “Xiao Qu?”

Ning Guiqu snorted coldly through his nose.

Shi Wen: “…”

Shi Wen tried to shift the blame, “It was Xiao Jiang’s idea! He wanted to get you drunk. Besides, isn’t the outcome good now? Lu Yuan even bought you breakfast. I checked and he got you your favorite pancakes!”

Ning Guiqu snorted coldly again after rinsing his mouth.

Shi Wen: “… Xiao Qu, you called me and Xiao Jiang idiots last night. We didn’t say anything about it.”

Ning Guiqu froze for a moment, then shrugged it off.

While wiping his face, he said defeatedly, “I’m an idiot too. I’m a massive idiot, okay?”

Shi Wen felt extremely guilty.

Shi Wen left, and Jiang Xu came.

As Jiang Xu was about to enter, Ning Guiqu, while washing his towel, muttered sullenly before Jiang Xu could speak, “Xiao Shi told me you were the mastermind behind getting me drunk. I don’t want to talk to you.”

Jiang Xu: “…”

Jiang Xu left.

Jiang Xu and Shi Wen had a small argument afterward.

Because the other two roommates were in the dorm, Ning Guiqu asked Lu Yuan to go to the balcony.

Lu Yuan urged, “Eat breakfast first.”

Ning Guiqu now blushed and felt embarrassed seeing Lu Yuan. He turned his head away and made Lu Yuan face his back, “I’ll eat later. I have something important to ask you.”

Lu Yuan could only speak to the back of Ning Guiqu’s head.

“Go ahead.”

Ning Guiqu hesitated for a moment before asking, “Did you say to me, ‘I like it when you stay away from me’?”

While lying in bed questioning his existence, Ning Guiqu suddenly recalled a memory from the original owner of his body, this particular phrase. He couldn’t see clearly who had said it, but the cold voice sounded familiar, like Lu Yuan’s.

Although Ning Guiqu was almost certain the familiar cold voice belonged to Lu Yuan, since this was the original owner’s memory, he still needed to confirm with Lu Yuan.

Lu Yuan thought Ning Guiqu was bringing up past grievances and didn’t try to deny it. He admitted directly, “Yes, I did say that. I’m sorry, Ning Guiqu.”

Ning Guiqu waved his hand dismissively, “No need to apologize to me. You didn’t reject me. You rejected the original owner.”

Lu Yuan: “…”

Once again, Lu Yuan didn’t understand Ning Guiqu.

Since Ning Guiqu’s back was turned to him, Lu Yuan couldn’t see his expression.

In fact, Ning Guiqu’s face didn’t have much expression. He was now certain that the original owner had liked Lu Yuan! Because the original owner’s eyes reddened when Lu Yuan told him to stay away.

He had been hurt.

However, the book clearly stated that the original owner was just a minor villain who came between the main characters’ relationship and was deeply in love with the protagonist gong.

Moreover, Lu Yuan had warned him multiple times to stay away from Song Huai. Could it be that the original owner had harassed both of them? If that ambiguous message had been sent, could it have been sent to both Lu Yuan and Song Huai?

Ning Guiqu had always assumed that the original owner had harassed the protagonist gong in high school, so he decided to ask the friend of the person involved, “Did I harass Song Huai in high school?”

Lu Yuan tried to maintain his composure, “It doesn’t matter, Ning Guiqu. Let’s look forward.”

Ning Guiqu suddenly turned his head, staring seriously at Lu Yuan, “It does matter! I’ve transmigrated into a book! I have no memories of high school! So I want to know if I harassed him or not.”

Lu Yuan didn’t answer. Instead, he stepped forward and adjusted the collar of Ning Guiqu’s pajamas.

The once arrogant Ning Guiqu instantly transformed into a pitiful rabbit. He patted Lu Yuan’s hand, trying to make him mind the distance. After adjusting Ning Guiqu’s collar, Lu Yuan stepped back slightly, feigning nonchalance as he said, “Ning Guiqu, he’s in a relationship now and will marry Xu Zhi in the future. There’s no possibility between you two. You don’t need to keep mentioning him to me. I won’t hold your past actions against you. After all, I can accept your flirtatious nature.”

Ning Guiqu took a deep breath.

But what did Lu Yuan mean by his “flirtatious nature”? If the original owner had liked two people simultaneously, that would indeed be flirtatious.

So, he harassed Song Huai after all.

Ning Guiqu earnestly defended himself, “It was the original owner who was flirtatious, not me!”

Lu Yuan chuckled softly.

“As long as you’re not flirtatious from today onwards, it’s fine.”

Ning Guiqu: “…”

He gave up, since Lu Yuan didn’t believe in his transmigration story anyway.

Ning Guiqu didn’t dwell on the issue of being flirtatious or not, since it wasn’t important. He decided to address the current situation. Cautiously, he spoke again, “There’s one more important thing I haven’t mentioned. But first, I need to confirm, can I reject you?”

Lu Yuan wasn’t surprised at all and nodded, “You can reject me as many times as you want. I will formally pursue you.”

Ning Guiqu felt embarrassed again.

Formally pursue him.

The penguin really wanted to pursue him. Admittedly, Lu Yuan was indeed attractive in every way. The original owner actually had quite good taste but was just unlucky, missing the time when Lu Yuan wasn’t straight. Now, who knew why Lu Yuan had suddenly turned gay. Ning Guiqu swore he hadn’t been seducing Lu Yuan at all during this time! He wasn’t that kind of indecent person.

After some thought, Ning Guiqu said seriously, “I can’t accept you. But we can be life partners. Can you accept being life partners with me?”

He rejected, yet didn’t completely reject.

Lu Yuan picked up on Ning Guiqu’s words, “Life partners? What does that mean?”

Ning Guiqu explained concisely, “It’s basically when two people who can’t find partners live together for life to avoid loneliness.”

Lu Yuan took a small breath.

“The kind where we sleep in separate beds?”

Ning Guiqu nodded, then added, “But it depends on the actual situation. If you’re clingy, we can sleep in the same bed. We’d be like family, after all.”

Lu Yuan pondered. Was this skipping the dating phase and jumping straight to being an old married couple? Not bad.

Lu Yuan asked another question, “Do we kiss?”

Ning Guiqu’s face quickly heated up, and he hurriedly waved his hands, “No, no! We’d be like family living together. Family members don’t kiss!”

Lu Yuan: “…”

Lu Yuan refused to be life partners with Ning Guiqu, stating seriously, “I will pursue you until you’re willing to be with me, not just as life partners.”

Ning Guiqu’s face was still hot as he patiently explained to Lu Yuan again, “But I won’t accept you. I’m carrying a big secret that I won’t tell anyone! Couples shouldn’t have such big secrets. What if the secret is discovered one day? We might break up.”

Lu Yuan guessed it might be about the venting alt account?

If so, Lu Yuan said, “You mean the bad-mannered you? I quite like that kind of uncultured person. I even liked the cursing quotes you sent me yesterday.”

Ning Guiqu didn’t believe him at all, “How is that possible? Then say this: ‘Let a monster come and stomp on the school.’”

Lu Yuan’s expression cracked a little. He opened his mouth but couldn’t say it.

Ning Guiqu wore an “I knew it” expression.

Lu Yuan: “… That has nothing to do with cursing.”

Ning Guiqu said quietly, “Then why won’t you say it?”

Lu Yuan thought that the cursing issue could wait. Now, he needed to find a way to resolve the matter of the venting messages sent to his number. If it was not resolved, forget about whether Ning Guiqu would be with him or not. Even if they got together, this would become the fuse for conflicts between them.

Seeing Lu Yuan silent again, Ning Guiqu asked warily, “What are you thinking about?”

Was he thinking about his secret?

Lu Yuan snapped back to reality and said seriously, “I’m thinking about how to pursue you.”

Ning Guiqu suddenly heard a sweet nothing.

Ning Guiqu said fiercely, “I won’t accept.”

Lu Yuan reached out and ruffled Ning Guiqu’s hair, “Then I’ll pursue you until you do accept. Now, shall we go eat breakfast?”

Ning Guiqu’s head felt hot.

As Ning Guiqu walked from the balcony, he found his two roommates still sitting side by side. Ignoring them, he sat back in his chair and ate his pancake.

He also took a look at his small fish. There were five in total. Did he really catch these fish? Where could he have caught such small fish?

Ning Guiqu couldn’t resist his curiosity.

“Where did I catch these fish? There’s no fish pond near our school.”

Lu Yuan chose to be understanding towards the forgetful Ning Guiqu.

“You caught them with a fishing net at the commercial street.”

Ning Guiqu realized then.

Ning Guiqu: “How much did it cost?”

Lu Yuan casually mentioned a number, “Ten yuan.”

Ning Guiqu’s eyes gradually widened. Ten yuan, and he caught five fish!!

Shi Wen, who was sitting across from him, praised generously, “Xiao Qu, you’re really amazing. Take me with you next time.”

Ning Guiqu felt proud and slightly forgave Shi Wen, “Sure.”

Lu Yuan: “…”

Ning Guiqu munched on his pancake while watching the fish. Shi Wen, who was almost forgiven, had already retreated to his bed.

Jiang Xu approached in a flattering manner, “Xiao Qu, our drama club is having a rehearsal tonight. The club president insists you must attend no matter what.”

Ning Guiqu had been at the sports meeting yesterday, so naturally, he missed the afternoon rehearsal.

But being a minor character with few lines, his absence yesterday didn’t matter much. Ning Guiqu coolly hummed in acknowledgment, “Got it. I’ll go alone this afternoon. I won’t go with someone who got me drunk.”

Jiang Xu: “…”

Shi Wen peeked from his bed, “What about me? Xiao Qu, can you forgive me?”

Ning Guiqu said seriously, “I can. You’re not the main culprit.”

Shi Wen sighed in relief and gave Jiang Xu a look, leaving him to fend for himself.

Jiang Xu looked at Shi Wen, then at Ning Guiqu, and finally at Lu Yuan, who had been staring at Ning Guiqu. He exclaimed in disbelief, “Just because he said I’m the mastermind, I am?”

Shi Wen gloated, “Xiao Qu trusts me. That’s what you get for rarely being in the dorm and coming up with such a terrible idea.”

Jiang Xu: “…”

Lu Yuan inserted a straw into the milk carton and held it out to Ning Guiqu.

Ning Guiqu, who was about to drink water, felt a bit uncomfortable with this. Lu Yuan was being so considerate now. Just yesterday, he had acted like a bully, and today, he was so nice. What did he do while drunk that made Lu Yuan fall for him like this?

Ning Guiqu took a sip of milk, ignoring the two arguing.

Because he!

Was doing it on purpose!

Trusting one and distrusting the other. Making the two fight among themselves! How dare they get Genius Xiao Qu drunk! And make him lose face completely! Now, his relationship with Lu Yuan was all weird, too.

“Ning Guiqu, you’re about to squeeze the milk out.”

The angry Ning Guiqu snapped back to reality, only to find he had slightly crushed the milk carton.

Ning Guiqu straightened out the milk carton and took another sip.

“Can I come watch your performance tonight?”

Ning Guiqu blinked and turned his head to see Lu Yuan looking at him expectantly.

Lu Yuan had never shown any interest in his drama club before. Moreover, Ning Guiqu said, “I’m playing a dwarf. Just one of the seven dwarfs from Snow White. I don’t have many lines, and you probably won’t even be able to spot me. There’s nothing much to see.”

Lu Yuan: “It’ll still be good to watch.”

Ning Guiqu: “…”

Ning Guiqu turned the back of his head to Lu Yuan again. His face flushed red. Lu Yuan… didn’t waste his good looks after all.

Ning Guiqu mumbled, “Well, if you want to go, then go. The drama club allows non-members to watch. If you can find me among the dwarfs, you can take a photo and show it to me later.”

Lu Yuan smiled, sighing once again at how adorable Ning Guiqu was. Much cuter than a rabbit!
