Chapter 42: Dating

Ning Guiqu’s head rested against the wall once more, but he stopped banging it. Lu Yuan watched Ning Guiqu’s every move, fearing he might attempt to hit the wall again when he wasn’t looking.

After a while, Ning Guiqu calmed down.

He had thought about the consequences of his alt account being exposed before. He would either die or live shamelessly. However, he never imagined that he would mistake his alt account and send all his uncouth rants to Lu Yuan.

The current situation was that his alt account had been exposed, but only to Lu Yuan. Lu Yuan wouldn’t reveal his account. But he needed to be Lu Yuan’s boyfriend. Ning Guiqu was confused again.

He tilted his head and looked at Lu Yuan, who was leaning by the door, looking at him with concern.

Ning Guiqu opened his mouth, “What exactly is your motive?”

Ning Guiqu didn’t believe anyone would like a bad-mannered person, especially someone as cultured as Lu Yuan. So even if he wanted to die now, he had to understand why first. What was Lu Yuan up to?

Why bring up dating at a time like this? Shouldn’t he be distancing himself?

Lu Yuan: “…So what motive do you think I could have? Collect your rants to expose you later? Am I that bored? Or rather, how would that benefit me?”

Ning Guiqu fell silent. He had indeed considered that possibility. But Lu Yuan didn’t seem like someone who would do such a thing. Then why?

Seeing Ning Guiqu’s expression, Lu Yuan knew he was overthinking again. What misconceptions did Ning Guiqu have about those rants? Or about himself? Or even about Lu Yuan?

Even if those rants were exposed on their school forum, Lu Yuan was confident most people would still find Ning Guiqu cute.

Lu Yuan decided to stop Ning Guiqu’s mind from spinning further, so he provoked him with a question, “When did you start sending me those rants?”

Ning Guiqu: “……”

Ning Guiqu’s face darkened.

When? It was the third day after he transmigrated!

With his head still against the wall, Ning Guiqu grumbled, “Can’t you see the timestamp of when I sent the messages?”

Ignoring Ning Guiqu’s sarcasm, Lu Yuan asked again, “Do you know when I started receiving your messages?”

Ning Guiqu clenched his fists!

“If I die, you’ll be the one who fanned the flames!” Ning Guiqu exploded in frustration!

The flame-fanning Lu Yuan continued to press, “Then, one last question. When did I start liking you?”

Ning Guiqu: “……..”

Ning Guiqu turned his head slightly, asking wearily, “What are you trying to say?”

Lu Yuan leaned against the wall, his legs slightly bent, staring intently at Ning Guiqu, “I want to tell you that those rants had no impact on me whatsoever. I fell for you even after knowing about them. Of course, I didn’t fall for you because of those rants. I simply fell in love with your soul.”

To prevent Ning Guiqu from overthinking again, Lu Yuan even deliberately used the word “soul,” to stop Ning Guiqu from bringing up the original owner from the book again.

Ning Guiqu’s face flushed red instantly, a flicker of emotion appearing in his eyes, but he still stubbornly questioned, “So why didn’t you tell me I sent messages to the wrong account?”

Lu Yuan chuckled helplessly and replied without hiding anything, “I actually planned to tell you. But wouldn’t that be embarrassing for you? So I thought about deleting the account, but every time I tried, you’d say something ambiguous to me. So, I would cancel the deletion to see if you still liked me. At that time, I didn’t want you to like me. If I confirmed you did, I planned to move out of the dorm.”

Ning Guiqu’s clenched fists slowly relaxed.

Was that so?

Still in a state of high alert, Ning Guiqu skeptically questioned, “I don’t like you! The alt account is mine, not the original owner’s. So you haven’t deleted it because you couldn’t confirm until now? It’s just an alt account for ranting, what can it prove? Aren’t you just making excuses not to delete it?”

Lu Yuan was exasperated. Did Ning Guiqu have no idea how many words of love he had sent through that account? He was blaming it all on the original owner.

Lu Yuan decided not to dwell on this point. If he did, Ning Guiqu might mistake his persistence for quibbling.

“I didn’t delete it because I was quite curious about what you said in there. Whether you were going to blow up the school again, who became an idiot this time, if I could leave Antarctica yet.”

Ning Guiqu: “……”

Admittedly, Lu Yuan had seen through his rants. But this explanation made sense. He just wanted to see the content of his alt account!

However, the current situation was beyond his expectations. His alt account was exposed, but only he was embarrassed, with no mockery from others, including Lu Yuan. Lu Yuan even… fell for him after knowing about those vulgar rants.

What was wrong with this world?

Could it be that from the beginning, Lu Yuan’s affection actually harbored…

“Ning Guiqu, are you thinking again that I had some ulterior motive when I first interacted with you? You, who called yourself a loser in WeChat, think about it, what could I possibly do to you? At most, I could use that WeChat to blackmail you into being with me.”

Lu Yuan’s slightly exasperated voice rang in Ning Guiqu’s ears.

Ning Guiqu: “……”

Ning Guiqu was completely convinced. He had just raised his eyelids when his head was suddenly patted again.

“So you really do misunderstand uncouth comments. Your words could at most be considered childish. The only thing that might be considered uncouth is the word ‘idiot.’ If you think you’re low-class because of that word, then what about those people who use it in every other sentence? Are they extremely low-class? By that standard, I’m quite low-class, too. I’ve said it twice.”

Ning Guiqu: “……”

He turned his head, his eyes crinkled, and after hesitating, he finally spoke. “Don’t say that word. It breaks your character.”

After speaking, he turned the back of his head towards Lu Yuan again.

Lu Yuan let out a soft laugh.

Ning Guiqu’s ears burned with embarrassment. But it was true! How could the cool penguin say ‘idiot’!

“Ning Guiqu, you’re so cute.”

Ning Guiqu: “…….”

Ning Guiqu felt dazed now. He realized his ears were really soft; with Lu Yuan speaking like this, he almost felt like he wasn’t that uncouth after all.

But things shouldn’t have progressed this way! If it all passed so calmly, what was the point of his earlier anguish? Was he just being overly sensitive?

Ning Guiqu scratched his hair and squatted down to grow mushrooms again.

He needed to think.

But someone wouldn’t let him think.

“There should be no secrets between us now. Want to date? If not, I can’t guarantee I’ll save face for you.”

Ning Guiqu looked up resentfully, only to see Lu Yuan squatting beside him, eyes curved in a good mood.

How infuriating! Genius Xiao Qu was now being threatened.

Ning Guiqu grumbled, “You, who peeked at my rants, have the right to say such things?”

“Why not? You sent them to me. How is that peeking? Besides, I was planning to keep it secret.”

Ning Guiqu: “…”

Lu Yuan certainly knew how to talk.

“So if I don’t want to be with you, you’ll spread it around?”

Lu Yuan chuckled, “I’m hoping to be with you. If I spread it around, there’d be no future, right? I’d just, you know, mention your alt account content to you every day.”

Ning Guiqu snorted coldly, not at all surprised by Lu Yuan’s answer. From the moment Lu Yuan recorded him while he was drunk, he knew that Lu Yuan was inherently a bit bad.

But he had good qualities, too, and when not being bad, he was quite gentle and pleasant to be around. Ning Guiqu pondered for a moment, then asked, “But you think I have feelings for Song Huai. If so, you’ll get angry all the time. I’ll be in trouble. You were just angry earlier!”

Lu Yuan responded promptly, “I won’t be angry anymore. I misunderstood you. You don’t like Song Huai.”

Ning Guiqu didn’t believe it at all.

“You’re just saying that to appease me, right? Unless you believe I’ve transmigrated, but that’s impossible.”

Lu Yuan: “I really don’t believe you’ve transmigrated.”

Ning Guiqu showed an ‘as expected’ expression.

Then Lu Yuan added, “But I truly believe you don’t like Song Huai.”

Ning Guiqu secretly rolled his eyes.

Lu Yuan smiled gently, reaching out to touch the corner of Ning Guiqu’s eye. Startled, Ning Guiqu immediately buried his head between his legs.

Lu Yuan withdrew his hand helplessly and asked seriously, “Ning Guiqu, did you hit your head around October last year?”

Ning Guiqu: “…….”

Ning Guiqu: “…………”

So that’s it! This was what he’d been waiting for. He thought Ning Guiqu’s brain was damaged!

Ning Guiqu raised his head again, glaring angrily at Lu Yuan. “You suspect my brain is damaged. Do you think my talk about transmigration is just my imagination? You think I’m crazy?”

Lu Yuan’s eye twitched.

He really hadn’t suspected that much.

Lu Yuan sincerely replied, “I just thought the memory area in your brain might be damaged. It has nothing to do with mental illness or anything like that.”

Ning Guiqu narrowed his eyes slightly.

Lu Yuan remained open and honest.

The mushroom-growing Ning Guiqu then stood up, shaking out his slightly numb legs, and said nonchalantly, “Forget it. It’s already quite good that you can initially believe me a little. But my brain is perfectly fine, you know. If you don’t believe me, we can even do a CT scan.”

Lu Yuan also stood up, “Then let’s do one.”

Ning Guiqu: “……..”

As expected!

“What if the CT scan shows nothing wrong?”

Lu Yuan’s expression became complex. After a two-second silence, he sighed lightly, “I’ll brainwash myself into believing you’ve transmigrated. In any case, I won’t think you’re lying to me anymore.”

Ning Guiqu hissed, “Fine, then keep your word.”

As soon as Ning Guiqu finished speaking, his head was held by Lu Yuan’s hands, “Ning Guiqu, your answer.”

Unable to turn his head, Ning Guiqu glanced at Lu Yuan’s eyes, then lowered his gaze and pouted. “I can agree, but we can’t—”

Before Ning Guiqu could finish, his head was suddenly pulled forward, and he saw an enlarged version of Lu Yuan. Ning Guiqu’s eyes widened as he felt a soft touch on the corner of his mouth – Lu Yuan’s lips pressed against his own.

Ning Guiqu: !!!!

What just happened?

Just as Ning Guiqu took a breath, his lips were pressed hard again.

????

This time was completely different from the earlier brief touch. Ning Guiqu’s lips were bitten, his teeth parted, and a soft tongue went straight in. The incredibly innocent Ning Guiqu, who had never experienced such things, stared blankly, completely forgetting to breathe.

After a while, Ning Guiqu’s lips felt numb. What just happened?!!

“Breathe.”

Ning Guiqu took a breath. Dazed and barely able to stand, he could only lean against the wall, and Lu Yuan gently patted his cheek. “What can’t we do?”

Ning Guiqu hazily raised his eyelids to see the brightly smiling cold penguin before him.

Cold? Penguin.

Scratch that, where was the coolness now?

Ning Guiqu’s head was still spinning. What couldn’t they do? It seemed Ning Guiqu didn’t even know what he had just said.

“I don’t know,” Ning Guiqu gave up.

Lu Yuan laughed, which sounded extremely arrogant to Ning Guiqu. So, Ning Guiqu rolled his eyes dramatically, and when Lu Yuan’s gaze was drawn to his eye-roll, he quickly poked Lu Yuan’s chest.

Ning Guiqu’s eyes brightened. It was a bit soft!

Lu Yuan felt a tickle in his heart and couldn’t resist pressing against Ning Guiqu for another round of kisses.

Ning Guiqu: “…….”

Gasping for breath, Ning Guiqu pushed away the terrifying Lu Yuan. His lips were red, and the corners of his eyes were flushed. “I just agreed to be with you! You should have started with holding hands.”

Lu Yuan was still unsatisfied, so he directly interlocked his fingers with Ning Guiqu’s and calmly hummed in agreement.

All ten of Ning Guiqu’s fingers were burning. He looked at Lu Yuan in disbelief. Could Lu Yuan be an experienced player? Otherwise, how could he be like this?

As Ning Guiqu was thinking, Lu Yuan tightly held his hand and said in a low voice, “Although I don’t know what you’re thinking, if you’re shy now and want to follow some rule about starting with hand-holding, you’ll probably want to die again.”

Ning Guiqu: “…….”

Ning Guiqu didn’t want to deal with the bad Lu Yuan anymore!

He shook his hand and broke free from Lu Yuan’s grasp, intending to distance himself from Lu Yuan. He needed to calm down. He really needed to calm down! But the bad Lu Yuan insisted on coming closer. When Ning Guiqu said he wanted to rest, Lu Yuan only gently said to rest well, but after Ning Guiqu lay down and covered himself with the blanket, Lu Yuan actually climbed onto his bed, saying he wanted to sleep together.

Ning Guiqu’s face turned bright red. He sat up abruptly, looking at Lu Yuan, who was already lying on his bed, and said in a daze, “I just agreed to be with you, right? You should give me some space now to process the fact that I sent my rants to you.”

Lu Yuan, using his arm as a pillow, said, “This is the best outcome. If I give you more space to process, you might overthink again. Ning Guiqu, from now on, I’ll be watching you closely.”

Ning Guiqu: “…….”

Ning Guiqu sighed deeply, lifted the blanket, and lay down.

This world has always belonged to the thick-skinned! Once, he was the thick-skinned one; now, it was Lu Yuan. Since things had come to this, Ning Guiqu decided to abandon his face as well.

Ning Guiqu tilted his head, “In the future, I want to go to your company. And I won’t work, I’ll just take money.”

Lu Yuan replied good-naturedly, “If there is one, it’s up to you.”

Ning Guiqu was unsure. “You agree so readily?”

Lu Yuan thought Ning Guiqu was still considering too little. Although the future company came from Ning Guiqu’s imagination, Lu Yuan was already thinking about starting a business because Ning Guiqu was so expectant. But would his father disapprove? That wasn’t his concern right now.

What he should think about was how easily satisfied Ning Guiqu was. Lu Yuan decided to make Ning Guiqu think more.

“If I really have a company in the future, we should be married by then, so it would be your company, too.”

Ning Guiqu: “…”

Marriage… They’d been together for less than half an hour, and he was already mentioning marriage. Lu Yuan was truly a smooth player!

But what Lu Yuan said made sense! Ning Guiqu was clearly very pleased. Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow.

Ning Guiqu was so pleased that he turned to face the wall.

Lu Yuan chuckled, “Ning Guiqu, are you still sleepy?”

Ning Guiqu wasn’t sleepy anymore.

He was imagining a future with a company.

Wait—

“You came to the gym too coincidentally today. Did Song Huai invite you?” Ning Guiqu became quite serious.

Lu Yuan immediately sold out Xu Zhi, “Xu Zhi said you wanted to give me a surprise and called me over. Where’s the surprise?”

Ning Guiqu bristled for a second before feeling guilty.

Surprise… That was just to fool Xu Zhi. So, he really hadn’t wronged the protagonist shou! Well, if it weren’t for the protagonist shou, he’d still be sending rants to Lu Yuan through what he thought was his alt account.

But now Ning Guiqu was more concerned about another matter, “If you inexplicably believe my transmigration is fake again in the future, will you still think I like Song Huai?”

Ning Guiqu thought, if Lu Yuan still believed that, he’d break up!

Ning Guiqu perked up both ears to listen. Then he heard a very confident reply, “You don’t love him, you love me very much, and you’re not unfaithful. Even if the transmigration is fake, your love is real. I really won’t misunderstand that you like Song Huai again.”

Ning Guiqu: !!!!

Ning Guiqu quickly turned over, and upon seeing Lu Yuan’s somewhat smug smile, he shouted loudly, “That was the original ‘me’! I only have…..”

Ning Guiqu held out his pinky finger, gesturing in front of Lu Yuan’s eyes, “This much love for you. Being with you is just to make you fulfill your boyfriend duties and save face for me.”

Lu Yuan reached out and grasped Ning Guiqu’s pinky, his dark eyes fixed intently on Ning Guiqu.

Ning Guiqu sensed a hint of trouble but stubbornly persisted, “Why are you staring at me? Matters of the heart aren’t something I can control. This is simply the extent of my feelings for you.”

Lu Yuan chuckled softly and embraced Ning Guiqu once more.

Ning Guiqu’s nose found itself pressed against the familiar spot again.

Ning Guiqu: “…”

He wanted to poke with his nose.

But Ning Guiqu wasn’t as bold as Lu Yuan, so he did not do it. He only heard Lu Yuan saying, “Ning Guiqu, you should be grateful it’s me you’ve encountered. Otherwise, a rabbit like you would have been devoured long ago, with not even bones left behind.”

Rabbit…

Ning Guiqu scoffed.

“So that earless, tattered rabbit was really me!”

Lu Yuan remained silent.

How infuriating!

Ning Guiqu, still in the same position, dozed off in Lu Yuan’s arms. In his hazy state, he suddenly realized something. “Where’s Shi Wen?”

Shi Wen was usually in the dorm when he didn’t have classes. Today, he hadn’t seen Shi Wen at all since he returned to the dorm.

Lu Yuan, who was on the verge of falling asleep himself, spoke with a hoarse, weary voice, “Li Mu discovered Shi Wen’s homophobia and personally came to fetch him. Said he wanted to show Shi Wen the charm of gay men.”

Ning Guiqu: “…”

Li Mu was truly the most idiotic of them all.

“Cursing people in your mind again?”

Ning Guiqu: “…No. I was just wondering, do I really need to get a CT scan tomorrow? But I really am a transmigrator. I didn’t hit my head at all.”

As soon as Ning Guiqu finished speaking, his head was firmly pressed against Lu Yuan’s chest.

“You’re going. Ning Guiqu, go to sleep.”

Ning Guiqu’s face flushed red. He… he was pressed against Lu Yuan’s chest! His oral fixation remained unsatisfied!
