Chapter 19.3: Sweets

Jiang Lin was familiar with livestreaming, so they didn’t need an assistant to come over. Plus, with their good looks, they didn’t need any filters. They just found a spot with good lighting and started the stream.

Li Qianxing had posted a notice earlier, so many fans were already waiting. As soon as the livestream began, the viewer count skyrocketed.

Although Li Qianxing didn’t have a dedicated fan circle, he was widely known. This being his first livestream was enough of a draw to push #Film Emperor Li Qianxing’s First Livestream# to the top of the trending list.

[Qianxing is actually livestreaming! What a great day!]

[Grandpa, grandma, maternal grandma, maternal grandpa, dad, mom, the star you used to follow is livestreaming, come watch!]

[Pfft, that’s too exaggerated. Parents maybe, but grandparents?]

[It’s not strange. Li Qianxing became famous at 9. People who liked him 20 years ago in their 40s are now in their 60s. Their grandchildren are teenagers now and can follow stars online.]

[Sneaking in to see how little presence Lin-ge has in the comments.]

[99 livestreaming together!! 99 sisters, let’s flood the screen!!]

Li Qianxing had his own phone set up in front of him, while Jiang Lin’s phone displaying the livestream feed was on the table.

He watched curiously for a moment before smiling at the camera. “Hello everyone, I’m Li Qianxing.”

Jiang Lin followed suit. “Hello everyone, I’m Jiang Lin.”

The screen immediately filled with various greetings.

Li Qianxing got straight to the point, “We’re livestreaming today to address that trending topic about changing the script. If you want to record this, get ready. I’ll wait five seconds.”

The comments immediately filled with [Hahaha].

[Wow, it turns out Qianxing has this kind of old-fashioned personality? That’s kind of cute.]

[Now I truly believe he’s never livestreamed before. His demeanor is completely different from Jiang Lin beside him.]

[That trending topic earlier was clearly trying to smear Lin-ge. But if it prompted a joint livestream with 99, I’m willing to burn some paper money for that marketing account.]

The comments on the phone were scrolling by rapidly. Li Qianxing wasn’t used to it and felt a bit dizzy trying to read them. It wasn’t until Jiang Lin quietly reminded him that time was up that he looked back at the camera.

Li Qianxing: “Regarding that issue, yes, the script was changed. However, I was the one who proposed the change, and it was approved by the director. Saying Jiang Lin changed the script is completely false. Please browse the internet rationally and don’t believe or spread rumors.”

After speaking, he looked at the comments again.

Based on Li Qianxing’s reputation for excellent acting over twenty years, even viewers who weren’t his fans were friendly. Moreover, a live appearance had a different effect than a studio statement.

Now seeing him livestream together with Jiang Lin, anyone with normal intelligence could tell that the implications of that marketing account earlier were complete nonsense.

Therefore, the comments were very friendly, saying [Okay] [Understood] [Good luck filming, 99].

However, some discordant remarks always stood out.

[It’s all the same! The prima donna just changed from Jiang Lin to Li Qianxing! Relying on his big-name status to change the script as he likes, completely disrespecting the hardworking screenwriters!]

Several similar statements suddenly appeared.

However, they were immediately countered by many viewers.

[Enough, you fans of that person up there, at least switch to an alt account.]

[Who doesn’t know your idol always brings his own screenwriter to sets, demanding rewrites every day? You have some nerve saying those things.]

[With Li Qianxing as the lead, as usual, he’s definitely a producer. He owns the script rights, so he really can change it if he wants. Plus the director approved.]

[I’m Yang He, the screenwriter for “Reunion”. I want to clarify something about that issue. Actually, I originally wanted to write a kiss scene! But that was for an outdoor location, which greatly affects the actors, so intimate scenes are usually avoided. I didn’t expect Teacher Li to have the same idea as me. Teacher Li’s grasp of the character truly impresses me a thousand times over!]

Yang He’s comment completely blocked the haters’ last avenue of attack.

Normal viewers couldn’t be bothered to engage with haters anymore. It was rare for Li Qianxing to livestream, so everyone praised him while asking questions and chatting.

Li Qianxing and Jiang Lin had already discussed livestreaming for at least half an hour, so they picked some questions to answer.

[Qianxing used to just have his studio release statements. Is he livestreaming today for Teacher Jiang?]

Li Qianxing: “Yes. Jiang Lin is an excellent actor who has put a lot of effort into this drama and his character. I don’t want to see him misunderstood by everyone because of a rumor.”

[I’m curious, Lin-ge, have you ever changed a script?]

Jiang Lin: “No. This script is very well-written, and I have no experience filming romantic scenes. I rely entirely on Li-ge and Director He to carry me. I act however they tell me to.”

Li Qianxing took over, casually saying: “Speaking of this, I remember something. I watched a drama earlier that looked quite high-budget, with a good opening plot. But after a few episodes, the character’s logic became muddled, and the plot became nonsensical.

“That drama once sent me the script, but unfortunately, my schedule was full, so I didn’t take it. But I quite liked the plot. I didn’t expect the final product to turn out like that, almost completely overturning the script. What a waste of a good drama.”

Jiang Lin: “…”

He had already guessed halfway through why Li Qianxing was saying this, but he couldn’t let Li Qianxing’s words fall flat during the livestream.

So, with mixed feelings, Jiang Lin could only ask what everyone in the comments was asking: “Which drama?”

Li Qianxing named the drama, then went on to critique several specific details, making the audience laugh.

[Why don’t you just report Li Mingsi’s ID number while you’re at it!]

[So the original script for that drama was actually decent? Even Li Qianxing regrets it.]

[You should check out the adapted dramas Li Mingsi acted in. Well, can’t say they’re exactly like the original, more like completely different things.]

Jiang Lin, with hidden joy, steered the topic back. “Does anyone have any other questions? We should wrap up the stream soon.”

Hearing him mention ending the stream, the comment volume suddenly increased, with questions focusing on topics they were hesitant to ask earlier.

[I won’t ask about the plot, just tell me, how many times did you kiss!]

[Is there hope to see the full version in theaters?]

Similar questions flooded by.

Li Qianxing was about to say, “The film’s content must remain confidential,” but Jiang Lin beat him to it. “All I can say is, this film is in Director He’s usual style.”

The comments immediately changed.

[Lin-ge, you’re straightforward! Got it!]

[Give Director He a raise!]

[Immediately adding to my notes: Bring tissues and blood replenishers when watching!]

[Indeed, official candy is the most lethal!]

Jiang Lin glanced over a few comments, then bid farewell to the viewers along with Li Qianxing before ending the livestream.

Li Qianxing sighed, “You reacted so quickly to those last questions. I could only think of answering directly at first. I’m really not suited for livestreaming.”

Jiang Lin smiled at him. “You just have less experience dealing with media. Besides, everyone has a different personality. The audience would accept your style just as well.”

Li Qianxing: “I’d better stick to acting. One should play to their strengths and avoid their weaknesses.”

Jiang Lin looked at him, his gaze softening. “Actually, you didn’t need to specifically mention Li Mingsi’s drama earlier. I feel uneasy making you lie for me.”

Li Qianxing was stunned, then smiled. “Then you can put your mind at ease. I didn’t lie.”

Jiang Lin sighed, “Those critiques you made, weren’t they just copied from what I said yesterday? You haven’t actually watched that drama, have you?”

Li Qianxing: “I heard you talk about it, so it’s as if I’ve seen it myself. Besides, they did indeed send me the script. I remember the name but have no impression of the content, which means the original content was at least not outrageous. If it had been as terrible as you described, I would definitely remember.”

Seeing him justify himself so matter-of-factly, Jiang Lin couldn’t help but laugh, feeling a warmth in his heart.

Li Qianxing put away his phone. “Alright, let’s watch the movie.”

Jiang Lin looked at his phone but said, “Wait a moment.”

He then stood up and walked towards the door.

Li Qianxing watched curiously. After a short while, he saw Jiang Lin return with a now-familiar cup.

Jiang Lin approached, bent down, and handed the warm milk to Li Qianxing, smiling with crinkled eyes. “Today’s tuition fee, and thanks to Teacher Li for making an exception to livestream for me.”

Li Qianxing took it, cradling it in his hands. “I just never felt the need to livestream before.”

Jiang Lin sat down beside him, searching for the film on TV while continuing the conversation, “Actually, interacting with fans can be quite interesting, and sometimes their comments can inspire new ideas. If you don’t mind, you could check out fan comments on Weibo when you have time.”

Li Qianxing thought about it and said, “True, even us old folks need to keep up with the times.”

Jiang Lin laughed. “You’re only four years older than me. That ‘old folks’ comment includes me too, you know.”

On the large TV screen, the film began to play, and they both fell silent.

Li Qianxing lifted the milk and took a sip, the warmth spreading from his mouth down to his stomach.

Just like yesterday when Jiang Lin had warmed his stomach for him.
