Lately, Little Mushroom wasn’t doing so well.
The research institute where Jiang Songshi worked had recently developed a new nutrient solution. According to experts, this nutrient solution was highly favored by plants and fungi. It was recommended to use this nutrient solution more often when cultivating plants and fungi.
Little Mushroom wished the experts wouldn’t recommend it. He didn’t know how this conclusion was reached, anyway, the experts never asked him. Little Mushroom didn’t like this nutrient solution at all!
“Yiyi.” Jiang Songshi called Little Mushroom’s name again.
Little Mushroom didn’t feel like answering.
“Why are you so listless, are you hungry?” Jiang Songshi approached and nudged the swaying tiny mushroom on Little Mushroom’s head, then picked up the expert-endorsed nutrient solution nearby.
Little Mushroom backed away two steps. “Hungry your head! You eat it yourself, I don’t want to, don’t come over.”
Little Mushroom: “Hungry##@#…you eat%#@#&…want…come over!”
What Jiang Songshi heard: Hungry…want to eat, do you want to come over and eat together?
Jiang Songshi felt warmth in his heart. Little Mushroom was really too cute. He was even willing to share the nutrient solution with him.
All living beings should have a hoarding instinct, right? Like a puppy clutching a bone, only choosing to share with its most trusted owner.
Could he be the little mushroom’s most trusted person? Jiang Songshi suddenly felt flustered, his ears turning red.
Little Mushroom saw him as his most trusted person.
The silly mushroom was so cute, Jiang Songshi told himself for the Nth time, he had to treat the little mushroom well.
Little Mushroom watched as Jiang Songshi’s face gradually reddened after hearing his refusal, and finally looked at him with concern.
Little Mushroom: ???
Little Mushroom: What is this stupid human thinking?
“Yiyi, would you like to drink the nutrient solution from the sky blue glass cup or the light purple ceramic cup today?” Jiang Songshi held up two cups for the little mushroom to choose from.
Little Mushroom: “#@#… Overlord!”
Jiang Songshi smoothly corrected himself. “Which cup would Overlord like to use today?”
Little Mushroom’s fair face scrunched up before he hesitatingly chose the sky blue one. Though the light purple looked nice too, Little Mushroom’s cap was sky blue, so he preferred the sky blue one.
Jiang Songshi poured the nutrient solution into the sky blue glass and handed the little mushroom a straw.
Little Mushroom still held the nutrient solution Jiang Songshi gave him.
Well, since the stupid human had prepared such a pretty glass, he might as well reluctantly drink it this time.
Days passed in a blur.
Over the next two weeks, Jiang Songshi grew quite busy.
One early morning after preparing Little Mushroom’s breakfast – nutrient solution; lunch – another nutrient solution; dinner – yet another nutrient solution, Jiang Songshi repeatedly reminded him not to wander off.
Jiang Songshi didn’t allow Little Mushroom to go out, not for other reasons. Besides Little Mushroom being unfamiliar with the world, Jiang Songshi’s main concern was the current season change causing many people to catch colds.
Jiang Songshi naturally worried.
Lab-grown fungi were so delicate. Although Little Mushroom differed from lab fungi, he was still a fungus and needed to be cherished.
Fungi required diligent care, Jiang Songshi thought, especially an adorable, soft, innocent silly little mushroom.
Before leaving, Jiang Songshi remained uneasy and seriously instructed Little Mushroom while holding his hand, “Yiyi, try not to go out, okay?”
Little Mushroom nodded earnestly to show he understood.
“If you really must go out, remember to wear a mask,” Jiang Songshi said, retrieving lab-grade masks from a cabinet, “Wear these.”
Beside the masks was alcohol, which Jiang Songshi also picked up, “If the neighbor’s ginger cat comes to play, remember to spray it with this alcohol first.”
That ginger cat roamed recklessly all day. There’s no telling how many germs it carried. Thinking of the fat ginger cat that pawed at his face from time to time, Jiang Songshi grew worried.
Comparing it to his adorable little mushroom made Jiang Songshi more anxious. Little Mushroom’s hands were washed spotlessly clean, and even his nails were trimmed neatly and cute.
So…the plump ginger cat wouldn’t bully the little mushroom, right?
Little Mushroom looked so easily bullied.
Jiang Songshi sighed, confusing the little mushroom who blinked at him.
“You must take good care of yourself, understand?”
“If anyone bullies you, definitely tell me.”
Little Mushroom shook the tiny cap atop his head, sensing the stupid human’s concern.
Little Mushroom decided he had to protect this stupid human. “I know, stupid human, hurry to work now.”
Little Mushroom: Know##@…hurry work#@#.
It was almost time for work, but Jiang Songshi still reluctantly left. If only he could carry Little Mushroom in his pocket, he thought while walking.
As soon as Jiang Songshi left, meows sounded from outside.
Plump Ginger: Meow~
Little Mushroom opened the door to go out but paused, turning back for the alcohol at the entryway and furiously spraying the plump ginger.
The ginger tried to escape, leaping onto the windowsill, and was about to get away.
But Little Mushroom moved even faster. His toe touched a rock near the railing before he launched himself up nimbly to reach the windowsill. His abdominal strength was evident as his fair, lightly muscled midriff peeked out mid-motion. After reaching the sill, he swayed twice before he exerted force from his waist, and quickly climbed up.
Little Mushroom seized its scruff as it let out a shrill “meow!” and doused the plump ginger cat in alcohol.
