After grabbing the fatty ginger back, Little Mushroom strutted around with his tiny mushroom head held high.
The research institute had been busy lately, and Jiang Songshi often worked overtime. Little Mushroom had just received a message, it was Jiang Songshi’s work schedule. Jiang Songshi mentioned that the research team was monitoring an experiment these days, so he might not come home tonight. Even if he did return, it would be around three or four in the morning. Jiang Songshi told Little Mushroom not to wait up for him.
Looking at Little Mushroom’s avatar, Jiang Songshi took a moment to carefully remind Little Mushroom to watch his diet, avoid staying up late, and get plenty of rest.
When the message notification sounded, Little Mushroom was basking in the sun in the courtyard, his legs crossed like he learned at the bar.
After about ten minutes of sunbathing, Little Mushroom finally remembered he was a shade-loving fungus.
Little Mushroom tugged at the tiny mushroom on his head. Spending too much time with the stupid humans had nearly made him think he was one of them.
Little Mushroom felt a rare twinge of melancholy.
Humans always said to drown one’s sorrows in alcohol. Little Mushroom glanced at the schedule Jiang Songshi had sent him. Since Jiang Songshi would be working overtime anyway, why not…
Little Mushroom’s eyes swirled around. He had barely tasted alcohol before!
Little Mushroom licked his lips. He worked as a DJ at the bar but only landed a part-time job in the end. After all, he had limited proficiency in human language, especially in speaking, which was somewhat inconvenient for communication.
Nevertheless, Little Mushroom had delicate features, even when wearing a mask tightly, it still managed to attract people. Considering this, the bar owner eventually offered him a once-a-week gig.
Little Mushroom naturally had no objections.
During his first two shifts, Little Mushroom fit in like a fish in water. The bar was noisy, and most of the time, Little Mushroom couldn’t make out what the humans were saying. But it didn’t matter; whenever someone tried to chat with him, Little Mushroom would just make random gestures.
After all, the essence of chatting lies in a sense of participation.
Whether one could understand… well, that was another matter entirely.
However, the previous two times had been rushed since Jiang Songshi was just working late, not staying out all night. Little Mushroom always went for the earliest shift, rushing to leave before Jiang Songshi returned home, to wash up, change into pajamas, turn off the lights, and rest.
Little Mushroom thought: Protecting the stupid human was such a hassle. If not for fear of scaring that conservative stupid human, why would a cool little mushroom like himself stoop to such indignities!
Little Mushroom’s heart ached from the daily effort to protect the fragile heart of the stupid human.
Stupid humans were so high-maintenance, Little Mushroom concluded once again.
Yet the stupid human provided nutrient solutions every day. Although Little Mushroom didn’t particularly enjoy them, he appreciated the good intentions.
But tonight, the stupid human would be working overtime! And he wouldn’t be home until three or four in the morning!
The tiny mushroom on Little Mushroom’s head quivered with excitement.
Of course, clever Little Mushroom couldn’t let the stupid human know the joy in his heart.
So Jiang Songshi received Little Mushroom’s reply:
[Little Mushroom: Not #coming home?]
To express his “regret,” Little Mushroom surfed and found two stickers while sending that.

Jiang Songshi: How can Little Mushroom be so cute!
Jiang Songshi decided to be a little nicer to Little Mushroom and ask the experts tonight if there were any nutrient solutions specially prepared for fungi.
After replying to the message, Little Mushroom didn’t check his phone again.
In the afternoon, he went “wall-running” with the fatty ginger and ran into the little coal ball that the ginger had been pursuing lately, before returning to his own room.
Little Mushroom leisurely changed his clothes, the baseball cap pressing down the tiny mushroom on his head.
Similar to the fatty orange’s ears, or how many animals retain their distinctive features when transforming, the tiny mushroom was such an existence.
Tucked under the hat, the tiny mushroom quivered as it closed. Little Mushroom put on his hat and grabbed the black mask nearby.
As he reached for the mask, Little Mushroom suddenly remembered Jiang Songshi’s reminder from that morning. After a two-second hesitation, he still put on the mask Jiang Songshi had prepared.
Little Mushroom wasn’t actually afraid of catching a cold – he was a little mushroom, not a stupid human.
But he had no choice; Little Mushroom had to protect this stupid human.
At ten o’clock that night, amidst the swaying lights, Little Mushroom received a message from Jiang Songshi.
Jiang Songshi sounded a bit concerned. “Yiyi, are you asleep?”
“You need to sleep on time to grow taller.”
Little Mushroom had just stepped off the stage.
The young man’s collar was slightly askew, revealing his pale collarbones. As the lights swept over, they cast a shadow beneath his collarbones. Having had a great time DJing just now, Little Mushroom had worked up a light sweat.
A fluorescent heart was drawn on the young man’s mask, and an exquisitely designed metal necklace adorned his neck, refracting different colors under the pulsing lights of the bar.
Little Mushroom’s fingers were slender and pale; when he picked up his phone to reply, he even appeared somewhat nonchalant.
Little Mushroom frowned in thought, then impassively scrolled through his sticker collection.
–As an opening line.
Typing was too much trouble, so Little Mushroom let out a “tsk,” imitating the tone he learned tonight, and decided to simply “brush off” the stupid human with stickers again.

[Little Mushroom: Goodnight.JPG]
“Ding dong,” Jiang Songshi saw Little Mushroom’s goodnight message.
Little Mushroom was indeed adorable, even using cute little cat stickers. Jiang Songshi could almost picture Little Mushroom’s expression as he sent the goodnight message.
Perhaps Little Mushroom was propping his head up, the tiny mushroom on top swaying gently. Little Mushroom typed slowly, pecking out one character at a time, so he must have been frowning intently, his expressions rich – furrowing his brow when unsure how to type a word, then beaming happily after getting it right.
In any case, Jiang Songshi never doubted the sincerity of Little Mushroom’s words.
That ultra-adorable silly mushroom would never lie, even if the fatty orange did.

At the same time, a friend who hadn’t been in touch for a long time sent a barrage of pictures.
[LiBuli: Ahhh I’m in love!!]
[LiBuli: Bro I’m gonna start chasing someone!!]

[LiBuli: Quick! Wish me luck!!!]
Just as Jiang Songshi was about to open them, a team member called out to him. Jiang Songshi put down his phone without checking his friend’s messages.
