Find him a partner.
From childhood, Gu Zeyu’s strangest whims were always indulged by his unprincipled brothers. The most outrageous instance was when Gu Zeyu clamored for the moon. When his twelve brothers couldn’t manage it, they sent their father, scientist Gu Qingheng, to bring back a large piece of meteorite from the moon for Gu Zeyu from the secret warehouse of the Aerospace Institute.
Gu Zeyu loved all beautiful things. But when the cool, glazed white moonlight became an ugly, earthy rock, his love for the moon instantly vanished.
This time, however, when he demanded a divorce and triumphantly returned to pack his only luggage – the dolls Mrs. Spider made him – his twelve brothers left him with just one line: “A married-off Alpha is like spilled water. Without infidelity or domestic violence, how can there be a divorce?”
When Gu Zeyu tried calling his eldest brother again, he found himself blocked.
In a speeding black Lincoln limousine, the brothers drank red wine to calm their nerves. Writer Eighth Brother, who was closest to Gu Zeyu, gulped a large mouthful and wiped the red stain from his lips. “Weren’t we too hasty? After all, Xiao Yu was standing up for us when he argued with our brother-in-law. Isn’t it too cruel to just run off like that?”
“Xiao Yu can’t leave Lu Yunian’s unit,” said Seventh Brother, fingers flying over a holographic keyboard. 3D data images instantly projected onto everyone’s eye chips. The bloody war scenes, experienced in 5D immersion, made everyone sigh heavily. “He’s safest there. As long as he remains Lu Yunian’s legal husband, Lu Yunian will protect him. We can’t let them divorce.”
“It’s my fault for overreacting. I notified Eldest Brother as soon as I got Xiao Yu’s message,” said Doctor Sixth Brother, pushing up his silver-rimmed glasses. “You saw Lu Yunian’s physique. I was really afraid he’d make Xiao Yu bleed, and you know Xiao Yu has a blood clotting disorder. He can’t be the bottom.” He continued seriously, “Blood clotting disorders are caused by congenital or acquired clotting factor deficiencies, vascular wall damage, platelet dysfunction, or other abnormalities in one or more coagulation processes, lack or excess of anticoagulants, or over-activation of the fibrinolytic system.”1I don’t understand any of that, so even if that is not accurate, let’s just pretend it is.
“Sixth Brother, I’ve always wanted to ask,” Writer Eighth Brother interjected, scribbling in his notebook, “why is that paragraph word-for-word the same as on Baidu? 72 characters – isn’t that plagiarism?”
“Because I wrote that entry. It’s my original work,” Sixth Brother replied dismissively before turning to the eldest. “Thankfully, Eldest Brother’s call stopped Lu Yunian in time. Even if we’d arrived quickly, we might not have been able to save Xiao Yu otherwise.”
“Intestinal bleeding is particularly difficult to stop. There’s no way to immediately locate the source. Lu Yunian is clearly a rough Omega. You all felt his pheromone suppression earlier, right? An Omega able to release pheromones that suppress Alphas – it’s unscientific.”
“If possible, I’d love to dissect him and extract his serum and pheromones for genetic testing.” Feeling eleven icy stares, he coughed awkwardly. “Of course, only after he’s dead.”
“Is it possible…” the usually silent Eleventh Brother, an artist, suddenly spoke, “that he’s like us…?”
“Impossible,” the others cut him off, gesturing for silence to keep the family secret unspoken.
Mrs. Spider’s Omega form sprouted eight legs, yet still couldn’t manage enough tissues to wipe Gu Zeyu’s tears. Fortunately, Gu Zeyu’s Alpha pheromones were particularly weak, or Mrs. Spider couldn’t have approached him in such emotional turmoil.
“Stop crying. Maybe your brothers were abducted by aliens?” Mrs. Spider attempted clumsy comfort. Seeing no effect, she added, “Or maybe something happened to them? Surely they haven’t abandoned you.”
Squad Leader Elephant used his trunk to take the tissues from Mrs. Spider, fanning her away with his ears. He turned to console Gu Zeyu seriously, “They probably just don’t want you to divorce General Lu.”
Gu Zeyu sniffled and took a tissue, too tired to cry more. He wiped his tears and accepted a fried chicken leg from Squad Leader Elephant, taking a vicious bite. “Why can’t I divorce? Lu Yunian isn’t good to me at all.”
Squad Leader Elephant glanced at the pile of snacks he’d been ordered to prepare, remembering Lu Yunian’s grim face as he commanded him to fry rice cakes for Gu Zeyu in the middle of the night. He flicked his trunk and said, “Maybe they don’t want you to be irresponsible. Abandoning an Omega can get you arrested by the Omega Protection Association.”
“You mean I can’t just leave an Omega in heat and go home? I need to find Lu Yunian a new Alpha first?” Gu Zeyu started munching on golden-fried rice cakes, smacking his lips.
“Ah,” Squad Leader Elephant couldn’t follow Gu Zeyu’s logic. Realizing that even if Gu Zeyu dared look, no one would dare agree to be Lu Yunian’s Alpha, he mumbled vaguely, “Mm, I suppose. Once you find someone, you can leave.”
Gu Zeyu found a new life goal.
Lu Yunian hadn’t returned since storming off that day, unaware that Gu Zeyu was busy trying to find him a partner. His Alpha was showing Lu Yunian’s military ID photo to every single Alpha in the camp, asking if they wanted to date.
At first, some were interested, leaning in to look at the photo. But once they realized it was Lu Yunian, they fled in terror. Eventually, no one dared come within three steps of Gu Zeyu.
Gu Zeyu sat sighing on the steps of the training ground, clutching the photo as he watched vigorous Alphas run past. After running fifty laps, they were exhausted and their steps were messy. When they saw Gu Zeyu coming in, they rushed as if they had been injected with adrenaline.
The first thing Lu Yunian heard upon returning to base was that Gu Zeyu had stopped harassing Alpha family members and started harassing Alphas directly. Grinding his teeth in fury, his pheromones roiled violently, threatening to burst forth. His last shred of clarity vanished as he grabbed Gu Zeyu and threw him into solitary confinement.
Lu Yunian’s heat had come early.
