It took considerable effort for Lu Yunian to convince Gu Zeyu to accept a psychiatric consultation. Gu Zeyu callously denied responsibility for the bruises on Lu Yunian’s body. He even pressed against Lu Yunian’s nape, stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the perfectly matching bite mark.
His warm breath, unlike that cold night, carried a sweet milky scent. When his teeth grazed the Omega’s scent gland without any overtly intimate gestures, Lu Yunian’s anger dissipated. He didn’t even dare apply pressure, just lightly touching the tooth marks. When each pearly tooth fit perfectly into the indentations, he panicked for a second, then looked up with a straight face and lied, “See? It wasn’t me.”
Lu Yunian couldn’t be bothered arguing with an idiot. He dragged Gu Zeyu to the unicorn Omega doctor’s office and coldly said, “Split his head open and take out his brain to see if he has an extra piece.”
Gu Zeyu burst into tears. The gentle unicorn Omega approached, softly patting his back to soothe the Alpha’s emotions, and said mildly, “He doesn’t decide. I’m the doctor here.”
Gu Zeyu’s crying wouldn’t stop. Lu Yunian glared at him and growled, “Cry again and I’ll pull out all your teeth.”
He covered his face to muffle his sobs, but tears still streamed through his fingers. Lu Yunian felt a twinge of regret but reminded himself that Gu Zeyu had done far worse to him. What harm could a few harsh words do?
The unicorn Omega, holding a medical record and pen, began asking about symptoms, but Lu Yunian couldn’t bring himself to speak. How could he tell someone he’d been f*cked unconscious by an idiot who then pretended nothing happened?
“Transfer him to the Alliance Hospital’s psychiatric department for a comprehensive examination, focusing on dissociative identity disorder and sleepwalking,” Lu Yunian said. Looking down, he noticed Gu Zeyu’s free hand clutching his belt buckle, trembling. His Alpha was frightened and seeking comfort from his Omega.
But who would comfort him, the victim, if he comforted the aggressor? Lu Yunian stormed out, leaving Gu Zeyu alone with the doctor. Gu Zeyu stared blankly at his Omega’s retreating figure, suddenly stopping his tears and whimpering as he clutched his chest.
Lu Yunian didn’t know that Gu Zeyu feared pain, injections, and, thus, doctors. Even though the unicorn Omega doctor was gentle and patient, Gu Zeyu’s fear of being there was even more intense than being thrown into solitary confinement.
Gu Zeyu’s way of facing fear was self-isolation. No matter how patiently the Omega doctor tried to guide him, he remained silent about his condition, just staring longingly at the door, waiting for his Omega to free him from this cage.
Lu Yunian contacted Gu Zeyu’s eldest brother, threatening divorce to inquire about Gu Zeyu’s abnormalities since childhood. The brother was initially reluctant to speak, only relenting when he received the divorce agreement signed by Lu Yunian.
“Xiao Yu indeed has sleepwalking disorder. Before he came of age, he had three episodes, waking up with no memory of what happened during them.”
“He wasn’t aggressive while sleepwalking, just constantly searching for something. His first episode was around age fourteen. We twelve have discussed the trigger mechanism but haven’t reached a conclusion yet.”
“You say he turned violent and even talked with you? That’s impossible. Sleepwalkers don’t wake up. How could you see his eyes, and blue ones at that? Do you really believe that? Aren’t his eyes brown?”
Unable to get useful information, Lu Yunian suspected the Gu family of concealing Gu Zeyu’s mental illness. Frustrated, he shouted at the eldest brother, “You should know better than I do that marriages involving mentally ill individuals aren’t legally protected. It’s bad enough you pawned off a simpleton on me, but he turns out to be insane too.”
“Mentally ill?” The brother’s anger suddenly flared. He raised his voice, “How can you say that about him? Xiao Yu might not be as clever as the rest of us, but that’s only because his mind hasn’t fully developed. Because of his condition, we’ve protected him more than others. He’s neither a fool nor a madman. How can you speak of your own Alpha like this?”
“Whatever he is, take your precious brother back. I don’t want him anymore,” Lu Yunian said, too tired to argue. No one could understand what had happened to him, and even the perpetrator was playing innocent.
He suddenly felt that all of Gu Zeyu’s previous kindness was like breadcrumbs scattered outside a trap. Lured by food, he had stepped into an inescapable abyss, devoured by a demon, and then callously tossed aside.
“He can’t leave your unit. Lu Yunian, we arranged Xiao Yu’s marriage to you because his current situation is dangerous. Only by staying with you will those who are targeting him not dare to act rashly.” The eldest brother took a deep breath, composing himself before continuing through gritted teeth, “Until the war ends, Gu Zeyu can only stay with you. Once you repel the sea folk, we’ll come to bring him home.”
“Until then, please treat Gu Zeyu well. Whether you acknowledge it or not, you’re contracted spouses.” After saying this, the eldest brother hung up. Less than ten minutes later, he sent a record of a ten billion donation to Lu Yunian’s army. Looking at the string of numbers, Lu Yunian laughed coldly and blacklisted the eldest brother’s contact.
How naive were Gu Zeyu’s brothers to think Lu Yunian could be bought? His tolerance of Gu Zeyu until now was never about money. He had to admit that Gu Zeyu’s “return safely” while touching his armor before the expedition had cracked open his heart a bit. Then the three “I really like my Omega” from the echo conch had slipped through that crack.
But Gu Zeyu had ruined it all.
Feeling frustrated, Lu Yunian went to the shooting range to practice. Two hours later, his deputy approached nervously, whispering, “General, you should check on the treatment room. Young Master Gu’s condition isn’t good.”
Lu Yunian hardened his heart and said, “I’m not going. He’s sick and needs treatment. I’m not a doctor, what use would I be there?”
The deputy hesitated for a long while, but ultimately didn’t voice his persuasion. A soldier’s duty was to obey, and this level of intervention was already the only thing he could do for Gu Zeyu.
It wasn’t until evening, when Gu Zeyu still hadn’t returned to their room, that Lu Yunian grew suspicious. He summoned his deputy and asked, “Where is he? Did he run away again? Has he been caught?”
The deputy lowered his head, not daring to meet Lu Yunian’s dark gaze. Choosing his words carefully to avoid showing pity or sympathy for Gu Zeyu, he said, “He was just resuscitated. He lost a lot of blood and is still unconscious.”
