Gu Zeyu had become even sillier.
Lu Yunian dragged Dr. Pei over in the middle of the night, forcing him to examine Gu Zeyu who was wearing cute pajamas. When he didn’t speak, Gu Zeyu looked like a beautiful porcelain doll, obediently lying on the hospital bed, but he had to be next to Lu Yunian.
He seemed to have developed skin hunger. He started screaming and crying when separated from Lu Yunian, but smiling like a child with candy when Lu Yunian comforted and held him. His energy didn’t resemble that of a recently resuscitated patient, but listening to Dr. Pei’s warning, Lu Yunian dared not let Gu Zeyu get too excited. After the doctor left, he simply lay on the bed, holding Gu Zeyu tightly.
The milky scent on Gu Zeyu had faded but was still sweet enough to make Lu Yunian feel hungry. The soft body in his arms was like a wheat-scented bread. As Gu Zeyu nuzzled Lu Yunian’s neck, making his ear tips burn, Lu Yunian’s lower abdomen tightened and his throat dried, yet he dared not make any improper moves.
Lu Yunian felt that even having lustful thoughts was beastly. After his second bout of decreased intelligence, Gu Zeyu clung to Lu Yunian like a baby bird to its mother. His only way of expressing emotion was the phrase Lu Yunian was tired of hearing: “I like Lu Yunian best.”
Lu Yunian thought: Fool, why like someone who treats you so poorly when you could like anyone else?
News of Gu Zeyu’s illness spread quickly. Lu Yunian realized how popular his Alpha was in the unit.
Mrs. Spider made many dolls for him, pointing to the largest one, “Xiao Yu made this general with me. He sewed the eyes and mouth himself. He said it would get hot soon, and you wouldn’t want to hug him, so he made a doll just like you so he wouldn’t bother you.”
Squad Leader Elephant brought many treats and even three piglets: “These are called Lu Lu, Yu Yu, and Nian Nian. Xiao Yu loves them the most. When feeding vegetables, he always lets them eat their fill before allowing other piglets to approach.”
They placed the dolls and piglets in front of Gu Zeyu, but he waved them away, curling into Lu Yunian’s embrace. Hugging Lu Yunian’s neck and gently nuzzling with his lips, he said ingratiatingly, “I like Lu Yunian best.”
Lu Yunian had no choice but to carry Gu Zeyu even during drill practice. He ordered his deputy to quickly set up a large umbrella on the inspection platform, placing Gu Zeyu on his lap covered with a silver cloak, ignoring curious glances from below as he conducted rigorous training while holding his Alpha.
Gu Zeyu softly leaned against Lu Yunian’s chest, idly unbuttoning and rebuttoning his gold buttons. Lu Yunian slipped his hand under the cloak, grasping Gu Zeyu’s soft fingers. When Gu Zeyu looked up with pitiful doe eyes, the man softened and let go.
Lu Yunian brushed off the medical record inquiry as necessary for psychiatric treatment. Gu Zeyu’s brothers, unaware of his injury and mindful of their previous unannounced visit upsetting their brother-in-law, didn’t act rashly. However, the sixth brother, a doctor, contacted Dr. Pei through his mentor to inquire about Gu Zeyu. Dr. Pei didn’t dare tell the truth, only saying the couple was inseparable, dissuading the Gu family from visiting.
After training, Lu Yunian carried Gu Zeyu to Dr. Pei’s rest room, asking with a grim face, “Will he remain this silly forever?”
Dr. Pei, having just reviewed Gu Zeyu’s follow-up indicators, took out a candy wrapped with cellophane from his pocket and offered it to him. Though clearly wanting it, Gu Zeyu pouted and didn’t reach for it. Lu Yunian, frowning, took the candy, unwrapped it, and fed it to Gu Zeyu, earning another muffled “I like Lu Yunian best.”
Dr. Pei scrolled through Gu Zeyu’s file, typing rapidly. “You just said he played with Mrs. Spider for a while today, not clinging to you.”
Lu Yunian felt somewhat angry remembering this. Wasn’t Gu Zeyu supposed to need only him? Today, seeing Mrs. Spider’s new cotton doll, he jumped from Lu Yunian’s arms to pounce on the doll.
“Hmm, about fifteen minutes.” Fortunately, after fifteen minutes, Gu Zeyu suddenly realized he couldn’t smell his Omega’s pheromones and frantically leapt back into Lu Yunian’s arms.
“It’s a sign of improvement. Once his physical indicators return to normal, he should regain his previous intelligence level.” The candy finished, Dr. Pei noticed Gu Zeyu timidly extending his hand. After receiving another candy, Gu Zeyu unwrapped it himself, popped it in his mouth, and returned a sweet smile.
Lu Yunian felt somewhat lost. He unconsciously held Gu Zeyu tighter and, in front of Dr. Pei, kissed his Alpha, even stealing the candy with his tongue. Seeing Gu Zeyu nearly cry in frustration, he unwrapped two new candies and fed them to him.
“He wasn’t that smart before. This is fine. But I worry about war breaking out again. I can’t take him to the front lines.” Lu Yunian noticed Gu Zeyu’s happiness over the extra candy, his own expression softening, finally looking less fierce. When leaving Dr. Pei’s room, he even pocketed all the candies from the desk, coaxing Gu Zeyu, “One kiss earns one candy.”
As Lu Yunian stepped out, Dr. Pei called after him, seriously suggesting, “Maybe you should get checked for dissociative identity disorder too?”
The Omega ignored his absurd suggestion. Gu Zeyu, hanging on him, tried to steal candy from his pocket. Lu Yunian swatted his bottom in punishment, hearing the Alpha whimper pitifully, and said coldly, “What did we agree on earlier?”
Gu Zeyu hooked his neck, licking Lu Yunian’s lips like a puppy, then bent down to reach for candy again. Lu Yunian naturally refused, swiftly carrying him away and disappearing down the corridor.
Dr. Pei watched the affectionate couple vanish from sight, shaking his head to clear the image of the love-struck General Omega from his mind.
As Gu Zeyu was slowly recovering, another life-changing event occurred.
His Omega was pregnant.
When Lu Yunian held the diagnosis report, his face flushed with anger. Gu Zeyu no longer needed to cling to Lu Yunian constantly and could now sense whether his Omega was angry or happy. So when he heard Dr. Pei say “Congratulations, you’re going to be fathers,” he slowly edged towards the corner.
But Lu Yunian looked so angry that Gu Zeyu inched back, tiptoeing to kiss Lu Yunian’s cheek, saying soothingly, “Lu Yunian, don’t be angry. I like Lu Yunian best.”
Lu Yunian gently pushed him away, turning to ask Dr. Pei, “Is it too early in the pregnancy to terminate?”
