Gu Zeyu’s lazy drawl was a stark contrast to his usual demeanor. His movements were slow and deliberate, like a wandering minstrel strolling through a garden. Despite being shorter than Lu Yunian, he walked on the waves, hovering half a head taller, gently stroking the Omega’s hair.
His icy fingers brushed Lu Yunian’s heated scent gland, infusing it with a surge of pheromones. Lu Yunian’s battle fatigue vanished instantly, and the baby inside him stirred, clearly delighted by its Alpha father’s scent.
From the moment Gu Zeyu appeared, all the sea demons prostrated themselves on the deck, not daring to even lift their heads. An ancient, melodious song echoed from the depths, and the war ceased in an instant. The sea folk retreated swiftly, leaving only the cowering minions on the deck.
Their leader, Hai Mu’er, never showed his face.
Gu Zeyu’s sapphire eyes glimmered strangely. He lowered his gaze to the grotesque sea demons, his lips moving in a mysterious incantation. In an instant, the enemies on the deck turned to ice sculptures, melting away under the sun and vanishing without a trace before Lu Yunian’s eyes.
Stunned by Gu Zeyu’s piercing gaze, Lu Yunian hesitated before speaking. “Gu… Gu… Zeyu?”
The man showed no reaction to his name. His intense gaze fixed on Lu Yunian’s swollen belly. He suddenly placed a warm hand on it and said, tilting his head, “Such a weak Omega. How can you protect God’s child? Is this how you use the power I bestowed upon you?”
Lu Yunian knew the man was having another episode. With the danger past, his taut nerves finally relaxed. His arms hung limply at his sides as he gazed at the suddenly calm sea. For the first time, he thought, “It’s nice to have an Alpha partner.”
Gu Zeyu was incredibly picky about his living quarters, and the orderlies couldn’t satisfy him. They asked Lu Yunian to intervene. When Lu Yunian entered, the beautiful young man was reclining on the bed, eyes half-closed in apparent leisure. Seeing Lu Yunian standing before him, he waved his hand and said, “No one can stand taller than me. Either sit or kneel.”
He glanced at Lu Yunian’s round belly and patted the space beside him. “I grant you permission to sit.”
Lu Yunian couldn’t be bothered to argue with this lunatic. Compared to before, he preferred the foolish Gu Zeyu who could happily live in a pigsty. His legs were tired, so he sat down without argument, unconsciously leaning against the Alpha’s leg.
Gu Zeyu narrowed his eyes but said nothing.
“These are the conditions for going to war. If you don’t like it, go back the way you came,” Lu Yunian said, his tone harsh as he felt a cramp in his calf.
Gu Zeyu glanced at him and barked, “Insolent!”
Lu Yunian patted his belly and said, “Is this how you gods treat a pregnant person? Is this the rule in your divine realm?”
Lu Yunian was burly, his muscles rippling like small hills beneath his skin now that he’d removed his armor. His features were rugged, unlike the soft beauty of other Omegas, but pregnancy had lent him a hint of tenderness rarely seen. In contrast, Gu Zeyu was so beautiful that when they appeared at the hospital together, everyone assumed he was the pregnant one.
Gu Zeyu considered arguing beneath him. After a moment of contemplation, he spoke slowly, “I can sense that you don’t like this child.”
Lu Yunian was taken aback. He instinctively covered his belly again, a comical gesture as if he thought it would prevent the baby from hearing.
“Why should I like this child? I never imagined I’d bear offspring for an Alpha like you,” Lu Yunian recalled that brutal night. In his heart, he separated the blue-eyed Gu Zeyu from the usually whimpering Alpha. The person before him was both familiar and strange, but Lu Yunian was irritated by his mystical tone.
Gu Zeyu gazed at him deeply, his eyes betraying no emotion at those words. He suddenly closed his eyes, as if about to fall into a deep sleep, but softly uttered one last sentence, “Then when the time comes, I’ll emerge to take him away.”
When Pei Xiuran entered the room, he found Lu Yunian staring at the sleeping Alpha with a troubled expression. His footsteps were light, and he was almost beside Lu Yunian before the Omega turned to look at him.
“I heard from the deputy commander that Gu Zeyu descended from the sky, suddenly appearing on the battlefield?” Pei Xiuran’s gaze fell on an ordinary Alpha curled up on the bed, hugging a pillow between his legs and unconsciously clutching Lu Yunian’s clothes as he slept soundly.
“Those blue eyes appeared again. Didn’t you say that in dissociative identity disorder, physical characteristics don’t change? Why do Gu Zeyu’s eyes change color, and why does his pheromone scent change from milk to seawater?” Lu Yunian wanted to shake Gu Zeyu awake and show Pei Xiuran his changed eyes. But he hesitated, unsure if the person instinctively clinging to him in sleep had already reverted to his foolish Alpha self.
“He single-handedly repelled the sea folk?” Pei Xiuran found Gu Zeyu’s abilities incredible. Even the strongest pheromone suppression had its limits. Yet in an instant, enemies across a hundred miles of sea had vanished without a trace. From what he knew of the sea folk’s leader, that rascal wouldn’t retreat so easily.
“Can you answer my question first?” Lu Yunian felt anxious. Every time Gu Zeyu had an episode, it made him feel so distant from the man. His own pheromones were barely noticeable in the presence of the blue-eyed Gu Zeyu. “Personalities can switch, but pheromone levels shouldn’t change so drastically, right? Can you check his current energy level again?”
Pei Xiuran stepped forward and lightly touched Gu Zeyu’s forehead. The skin contact emitted a soft orange glow that faded after a minute. He said, “He’s just an ordinary Alpha, without even basic differentiation skills.”
Lu Yunian recalled how the man had flown on waves and frozen water, phenomena that seemed beyond modern science. A possibility suddenly struck him, and he said gravely, “Could Gu Zeyu be the king the sea folk are looking for?”
The sea folk lieutenants imprisoned in the brig were brought before Lu Yunian. The strong Alpha straddled a bench and tossed out a portrait, demanding harshly, “Recognize him?”
The lieutenant, an octopus Alpha, waved his eight tentacles and caught the white paper. After looking at it, he shook his head and said, “No.”
At Pei Xiuran’s suggestion, they drew a picture of Hai Mu’er and presented it to the octopus Alpha. “Do you recognize this one?”
The octopus fumbled to orient the portrait correctly, squinting at it for a long while before saying, “Don’t know him.”
Pei Xiuran signaled the soldiers to take them away, then turned to Lu Yunian and said, “Octopuses have inverted retinas. They can’t see clearly on land, so questioning them is pointless.”
Lu Yunian was about to speak when Gu Zeyu suddenly woke up. Seeing him and Pei Xiuran, he broke into a cold sweat, clutching Lu Yunian’s arm and trembling as he said, “How did I get here? Did the enemy infiltrate the camp and kidnap me to force you to retreat? Did you agree? Will the Alliance punish you? Quick, contact my brothers to save you. Don’t be afraid, I’m here. But… waaah, it’s so scary!”
Lu Yunian: “…”
Pei Xiuran: “…”
