Chapter 36: Extra – Children’s Day

Lu Yunian’s schedule was packed today. When he left home this morning, his two children were still asleep. It took great effort to pry the oldest child, Gu Zeyu, off himself. Gu Zeyu rolled over three or four times in bed before reluctantly hugging a life-sized pillow of Lu Yunian and continuing to snore.

In the meeting, Lu Yunian limited each commander to five minutes before signaling them to sit down and move to the next topic. This efficiency compressed a full day’s meeting into half a day, ending precisely at noon.

The Alphas present exchanged puzzled looks, wondering what had gotten into General Lu. They watched as he slowly stood up and announced the final agenda item. “Today is Children’s Day. Those with children at home get half a day off. Dismissed.”

The Omega strode out of the conference room, oblivious to the Alphas inside gaping in shock. Pei Xiuran, passing by, followed Lu Yunian, teasing, “Such a nice perk. Since you have two kids now, how about sharing one with me?”

Lu Yunian glanced at him sideways, looking Pei Xiuran up and down, and snorted, “Between you and that Hai Mu’er, who’s the problem? Is he unable to conceive, or are you unable to get it up?”

Pei Xiuran’s face reddened, two clouds of embarrassment hanging on his cheeks. He could only bluster, “Revenge is a dish best served cold. You may have the upper hand now, but don’t come begging me for suppressants when Xiao Yu’s in rut.”

Lu Yunian stopped, turning slightly to look at Pei Xiuran. He said seriously, “Next rut, I don’t plan to use suppressants on him.”

Pei Xiuran was taken aback. “You mean…?”

Lu Yunian thought of Gu Zeyu constantly asking for kisses last night and cleared his throat. “He’s not really a child, and his divine consciousness is gradually recovering. He’s starting to understand certain things…”

When Lu Yunian arrived home, Gu Zeyu was playing a block-stacking game with Gu Lulu. Seeing the Omega enter, he threw himself at Lu Yunian with teary eyes, clinging to him and whining, “Your son won’t let me win at games. I’ve lost seven rounds. He made me bark like a dog and wear a dog tail. The punishment was so harsh!”

Lu Yunian looked down to see a fluffy tail attached to the Alpha’s backside, dragging on the ground when he picked him up. It looked quite realistic. There were also two short triangular ears in his black hair, feeling much like real dog ears. Lu Yunian touched one, and it twitched, drooping and rising again.

“Where did all this nonsense come from?” he asked, setting Gu Zeyu on the sofa and picking up his six-year-old son. The question was directed at his son, not Gu Zeyu.

Gu Lulu showed unusual composure for his age. Seeing the Alpha rolling around on the sofa throwing a tantrum, he put his hands on his hips like a little teapot and said, “Uncle Hai Yu sent them. Father insisted they were toys for me, but how could this size be for children? It even says 18+ on it, not 6+.”

Lu Yunian choked on his water, coughing several times to hide his embarrassment. He slapped the Alpha’s butt, chiding him for not putting away his things properly. Gu Zeyu buried his face in a pillow in grievance and refused to come out. Lu Yunian grabbed him by the waist and pulled him out, planting a light kiss on his lips and whispering in his ear, “It looks good. Take it off for now, and put it back on tonight.”

Gu Zeyu’s mood instantly brightened when he learned Lu Yunian was taking him and their son to an amusement park. By the time he had packed a water bottle and a bag of snacks, Lu Yunian was already waiting at the door, holding their similarly dressed son with one arm and extending his other hand to Gu Zeyu.

Gu Zeyu skipped over, taking Lu Yunian’s hand and swinging it. He stood on tiptoes to plant an affectionate kiss on the Omega’s cheek. Gu Lulu, used to their affection, pulled out a tissue from his backpack to wipe the Alpha’s saliva off his father’s face.

At the amusement park entrance, they spotted Tian Yulan and Hai Yu. Before Lu Yunian could frown, Gu Zeyu had already let go of his hand and rushed towards Hai Yu. The two excitedly ran back, scooped up Gu Lulu, and headed for the bumper cars.

Lu Yunian glanced at Tian Yulan, dressed as an angel with a halo, and said disdainfully, “It’s Children’s Day. You two don’t even have kids. Why are you here?”

Tian Yulan elegantly fluttered his wings, adjusting his halo. Looking at Hai Yu holding hands with Gu Zeyu in the queue, he said, “Everyone has a big kid. Hai Yu is just six years and one thousand six hundred months old.”

As they approached, Gu Zeyu and Hai Yu reached the front of the line. Gu Zeyu rode with their son while Hai Yu took a car alone. Gu Zeyu’s reactions were slower than the little mermaid Alpha’s, and Hai Yu chased him around the track, making Gu Zeyu wail in frustration. In the end, Gu Lulu was so annoyed by his father’s clumsiness that he jumped out of the car himself, refusing to let Gu Zeyu carry him.

Lu Yunian pulled the Alpha close, comforting him gently. Seeing Gu Zeyu’s reddened eyes, he led him to the back of the line to queue again. Gu Lulu refused to let Tian Yulan hold him, standing on tiptoes at the railing to cheer for his General father. Lu Yunian showed off his warship-piloting skills, chasing the little mermaid Alpha until he begged for mercy. Gu Zeyu laughed heartily from his car, and at the end, he cupped Lu Yunian’s face and gave him a big kiss on the lips.

When Hai Yu came out, he saw Tian Yulan laughing too. He pounced on him, tugging at his sleeve and throwing a playful tantrum. Tian Yulan patted his head, comforting him, “Don’t be upset. Next time we’re in battle, I’ll get back at Lu Yunian for you.”

The amusement park had many attractions, but few were suitable for five- or six-year-olds. Gu Zeyu was hesitant about the roller coaster and drop tower. Hai Yu dragged Tian Yulan to accompany him, but he came back with wobbly legs and needed to be carried to a bench.

Lu Yunian ordered cola and chicken wings for Gu Zeyu, and a kid’s meal for their son. Gu Zeyu eyed the Psyduck toy in Gu Lulu’s hands enviously, so the Omega bought another set. The sight of two Psyducks dancing face-to-face was almost too silly to watch.

When Gu Lulu fell asleep, Lu Yunian carried him and had Gu Zeyu follow behind. Suddenly turning around, he found the Alpha had disappeared in the crowd. Panicked, Lu Yunian quickly backtracked, only to find Gu Zeyu standing next to a balloon vendor, clutching a bear-patterned balloon.

He ran over excitedly with the balloon, pointing at the swaying bear in the air, and said happily, “Lu Yunian, look, you can fly like me now.”

Lu Yunian pressed a hand against his back, pulling him close and hugging his big child tightly. He heard Gu Zeyu whisper, “Happy Children’s Day.”

Lu Yunian patted the Alpha’s head and said tenderly, “Happy Children’s Day, my little one.”

Raine: This is short but felt longer than it actually is. Then, I remembered I never ate anything the whole time I translated the whole novel hahaha. I’m currently jobless so I’m doing nothing but read and translate. Anyways, I’m looking for more short stories to translate and share. I would also like to start a section in this site where I just randomly share reviews and recommendations, especially for untranslated danmei novels, in hopes they don’t get buried and forgotten in the internet just because they are not translated.
