Chapter 01: A Specially Arranged Assistant

“Song Yan, stop… Mmph! Not inside… I can’t… Ah~”

Song Yan gripped Bai Yucheng’s waist tightly, not allowing him any chance to break free. Despite the other’s pleas, he drove his scorching hardness even deeper.

Bai Yucheng couldn’t withstand such an assault, yet he was powerless against the scent of Song Yan’s pheromones. Reason and desire tormented him relentlessly.

“Didn’t you say you were a Beta? Hmm? How are you in heat now?”

“No… It’s not…”

Although Song Yan had feelings for Bai Yucheng, the fact that he concealed his true gender upset him. Song Yan, who had always been sensitive about his Alpha status, naturally held no fondness for Omegas who offered themselves so readily. Bai Yucheng was perfectly aware of this; it was a pity for the trust they had built during this time.

“Since this is what you want, I’ll give it to you.” Song Yan bit down hard on Bai Yucheng’s scent gland, causing the sweet pheromones to intensify—he couldn’t identify the plant it resembled, only that it was the most soothing scent he’d ever encountered.

“Mmm! No…” Bai Yucheng’s strength to resist vanished. Song Yan’s lemon-mint pheromones invaded and seduced him, unconsciously making him raise his hips to grant Song Yan easier access.

Bai Yucheng had never experienced lovemaking like this before. Having only presented as an Omega at 24, his body couldn’t handle such intense activity, nor was he accustomed to being in heat. For Song Yan, it was also his first time using his Alpha status to dominate another. This was not his original intention – his feelings for Bai Yucheng were genuine, after all.

As for how things escalated to this point, it all began when Bai Yucheng joined Song Yan’s jewelry company.

Last summer, when Song Yan’s assistant Huang Ling went on maternity leave, his mother recommended Bai Yucheng—his file listed him as a Beta, and he wasn’t from a family seeking an alliance with the Song family, which made them feel at ease about bringing him on.

Song Yan single-handedly managed this company. Originally, his father, Song Shilan, wanted him to inherit the family conglomerate, but he loved gemstones and wanted to create his own jewelry brand.

Song Shilan felt his son should gain some experience, so he agreed to let him venture out, providing minimal funding. Song Yan didn’t disappoint. He built a respectable company in just three years—his jewelry design and appraisal services were especially popular, and he was known for skillfully crafting affordable jewelry from various gemstones.

However, despite being an Alpha, Song Yan felt that this inherent gender classification was unfair, so he never used his status to his advantage.

Yet, there were far too many people seeking to marry into the Song family. Omegas constantly threw themselves at him, which he found irritating—they were all after his family background, with no one genuinely liking him for who he was.

Love at first sight? Song Yan didn’t believe in such things.

“How’s the new assistant?”

Song Yan had just returned from a gemstone exhibition and hadn’t met Bai Yucheng yet.

“He’s very capable, don’t worry, Boss Yan.” Lu Qi smiled. “He’s quite efficient.”

“Good, then leave this raw stone procurement to you and Li Ting.” Song Yan nodded. “Don’t forget the time for the finance meeting the day after tomorrow.”

She stuck out her tongue playfully. “I won’t forget!”

Lu Qi was Song Yan’s childhood friend. Like him, she was an Alpha. She had worked alongside Song Yan from the start and was now second-in-command. Although she was not particularly interested in gemstones, she excelled in finance and risk assessment.

“By the way, your mother said Bai Yucheng is her old friend’s son and asked us not to give him a hard time.”

Song Yan frowned. “I don’t need any idle hands here.”

“It’s up to you, but I think he’s quite knowledgeable about gemstones. He’s the one who suggested adjusting the quantities of garnet and crystal raw stones this time. I looked at the recent market research and felt the adjustment would indeed be better.”

“It wasn’t your idea?”

Lu Qi shook her head. “You were away for that exchange program and told me to handle it. I was a bit hesitant at the time.”

“I was wondering how you suddenly became an expert in this.” Song Yan glanced at her. “So we have a talented newcomer.”

“Alright, I’m off. There’s a pile of work waiting for me.”

Song Yan also had a mountain of tasks to tackle. Ever since Huang Ling went on maternity leave, the progress of many projects had been delayed significantly. Dealing with everything one by one was tedious, especially with store inspections to conduct. There was no chance of rest anytime soon.

Entering his office, Song Yan was about to start processing the recent documents and emails, but upon opening his computer, he found everything already organized into dated folders.

All the recent files were there—personal and work-related, all meticulously sorted, making his job much easier.

It seemed this assistant was quite clever.

Song Yan developed a favorable impression of this unseen assistant. He seemed to be really capable of his work, so why did he need to take special care of him? With summer holiday promotions to prepare, he had no time to spare for that anyway.

At noon, Song Yan finally met Bai Yucheng. He came in to confirm Song Yan’s schedule for the next few days—finance meetings, store inspections, meeting with the advertising company manager—all arranged impeccably.

“Alright, that’s fine.”

“Then I’ll go order the gift for Mr. Li.”

Bai Yucheng looked like a college student, but his eyes were far from naive. He didn’t make direct eye contact with Song Yan; he just lowered his gaze and nodded slightly, his voice soft.

“Thank you for your hard work, Assistant Bai.”

He froze for a moment, surprised by Song Yan’s words, but quickly responded, “It’s my job.”

Over the next few days, Song Yan experienced Bai Yucheng’s competence firsthand—whether it was scheduling or processing documents before handing them over, everything was handled skillfully and thoroughly. He even managed to quickly prepare meals from the cafeteria when Song Yan was too busy to eat.

It wasn’t just work; he took care of Song Yan’s personal needs as well.

Such thoughtfulness made Song Yan feel a bit embarrassed. When he finally had a chance to rest at home, he asked his mother about Bai Yucheng’s background.

Cheng Tian smiled, “Yucheng used to be his parents’ assistant. The boy is attentive and diligent; I liked him immediately.”

“Why was he his parents’ assistant?”

“Bai Li is a screenwriter, and Lin Mei is a famous author. They’re both busy and when Yucheng wasn’t feeling well, they had him help out. As it turned out, the kid was clever and did an excellent job.”

“So you stole someone else’s talent?” Song Yan chuckled.

She looked a bit smug. “You were so busy at the time. I thought arranging a capable assistant for you would make things easier.”

“He is indeed very capable, and a good cook too.”

“See? I told you.”

“But when Huang Ling returns, we should let him go back to his parents.”

Cheng Tian looked puzzled. “Why?”

“Didn’t you say he wasn’t feeling well?”

“He’s much better now.”

“Mom, are you trying to set me up?”

She nodded. “Of course. You’re almost thirty, and it’s not right to focus solely on your career. People at your company say you’re always frowning. You need some love to brighten you up.”

“Mom, my company has only just stabilized…”

“It’s been on track for three years now.” Cheng Tian pouted—honestly, at her age, it was somewhat endearing. It wasn’t that she was trying to act young, but her inherently cute demeanor made it difficult to refuse her, especially given her age.

“Alright…” Song Yan conceded, unable to resist his mother’s wishes.

“Then I’ll invite him over for dinner today. I’ve already planned to meet Lin Mei for a book club anyway.”

Seeing her so happy, Song Yan thought it wasn’t such a bad idea—after all, Bai Yucheng was quite clever, and it was just dinner.

Little did he know that this single meal would dramatically improve his opinion of Bai Yucheng.

He was actually a jewelry designer.
