Chapter 18: Divorce? Bring it on, who’s afraid?

Song Yan found it strange. Why would the usually obedient Bai Yucheng say such a thing? Weren’t there two children? Shouldn’t Bai Yucheng prefer the son?

Bai Yucheng also looked shocked. “Song Jia? That’s… too ugly. Shouldn’t a girl’s name be prettier? Besides, the Song surname isn’t easy to pair with. Wouldn’t it be better to use mine?”

“How is it ugly? Isn’t Jiajia an adorable nickname?” Song Yan inexplicably disliked Bai Yucheng challenging him on this. “The son will take your name, of course.”

Bai Yucheng didn’t know why he felt compelled to argue. “Don’t you have a company? Isn’t it usually the son who inherits?”

“That’s ridiculous. The children can do whatever they want. Why are you so rigid? The daughter should be the Song family’s little princess. We shouldn’t let her suffer.”

Cheng Tian, standing nearby, hadn’t yet grasped what the two were arguing about. She only knew that neither was willing to back down, but thought some friction was normal for a young couple.

“How am I being rigid? Aren’t you Alphas different from others? Wouldn’t having a son bring more pride? The daughter should take my surname, of course,” Bai Yucheng said, feeling indignant.

Song Yan felt the same way. No one had ever refused him like this before. Didn’t Bai Yucheng always accept everything, including marriage and children? “How could I be like them? It should bring more pride to an Omega to bear a son. It’s better for you too.”

“Not at all. I prefer a daughter.”

“Don’t you want a son?” Song Yan grew angry. “They’re both our children.”

Bai Yucheng refused to yield. “That’s why the son should take your surname. My daughter and I can be your support.”

“No, my daughter stays with me.”

Song Yan’s words were firm. Cheng Tian, sensing something was wrong, quickly intervened. “What’s going on? It’s just a name.”

“Mom, it’s different. My daughter must take my surname,” Song Yan said, his expression serious. “We have two children, a perfect pair. Why can’t the daughter take my name?”

“You’re being unreasonable,” Bai Yucheng stepped forward. “My daughter should clearly be with me.”

“Assistant Bai.” Song Yan’s voice deepened. “My daughter stays with me.”

The atmosphere plummeted. Bai Yucheng could even feel Song Yan releasing pheromones to pressure him!

“Boss Yan, are you ordering me?”

Bai Yucheng refused to back down.

These two, who had been passionately intimate not long ago, were now in the same place, fiercely debating whose surname their daughter should take.

“You two…”

“Waaah!”

As Cheng Tian was about to speak, the sleeping son suddenly woke up crying, his little face turning red from the effort.

Seeing this, Bai Yucheng and Song Yan grew anxious, and both moved to pick up the child. They collided. Song Yan looked at Bai Yucheng and slowly withdrew his hand.

Bai Yucheng quickly soothed their son. “There, there… don’t cry. It’s all your father’s fault for waking you up.”

“You’re the one being unreasonable and waking the child. What if our daughter starts crying too?” Song Yan rushed to hold his daughter, but Bai Yucheng blocked him again.

“Boss Yan, who was releasing pheromones recklessly just now?”

“Alright, alright, what’s gotten into you two?” Cheng Tian swiftly took the child from Bai Yucheng. “Weren’t you fine just a moment ago? It’s such a small matter…”

“Mom, stop defending him,” Song Yan pulled Cheng Tian aside. “This isn’t a small matter.”

Cheng Tian was baffled. The two had been lovingly picking up their children together this morning, and now they were clashing over such a trivial issue?

What was going on?

The atmosphere was tense. Neither Bai Yucheng nor Song Yan spoke.

Song Yan couldn’t understand. It was as if he wasn’t allowed to love his own daughter. And why had Bai Yucheng suddenly become so disobedient? Wasn’t everything fine before?

Both in work and life, he had always been so obedient and compliant, giving birth to their children and marrying him.

It had been the same since the pregnancy. Song Yan loved and adored him so much, taking care of him in every way. Didn’t Bai Yucheng love and like him back just as much?

Thinking about this, Song Yan had a sudden realization—Bai Yucheng had never actually said he liked him. Why didn’t he show any sign? Song Yan had been constantly expressing his feelings.

Could it be that Bai Yucheng was only with him because of the children?

The more he thought about it, the more absurd it seemed.

Bai Yucheng felt the same way. He couldn’t understand why Song Yan would suddenly change towards him when he had been so gentle before. Now that the children were born, did Song Yan find him less exciting? No wonder he had always been so sweet and clingy before. As soon as the children were born, he became a different person.

It hadn’t been long, but Song Yan clearly married him only for his body. Now that they had children, he no longer needed Bai Yucheng, right?

Both had their own thoughts, remaining silent.

The elders on both sides were utterly confused, given how loving the couple usually was.

Despite the tense atmosphere, Bai Yucheng took the two children home. However, neither child’s name had been decided yet.

As soon as they got home, Bai Yucheng took the children to the bedroom, clearly not wanting Song Yan to enter.

Coincidentally, there was an issue with a batch of raw stones, so Song Yan left the naming matter to Cheng Tian, insisting that the daughter must take his surname.

But Cheng Tian couldn’t bear to see Bai Yucheng upset, so she and Lin Mei kept comforting him. Still, he looked exhausted.

At the company, Song Yan maintained a stern expression. Everyone had planned to congratulate the CEO on his twins, but seeing his demeanor, no one dared approach—except for Lu Qi. After hearing about the situation with Bai Yucheng, she couldn’t help but laugh. “You two are so trivial. Aren’t you both raising the children? What does it matter whose surname they take?”

“Of course it matters. Our daughter must take mine.”

“If you say that, Assistant Bai will think you’re trying to take your daughter away. He’s just given birth and can easily overthink things.” She patted Song Yan’s shoulder. “Besides, why are you being so indecisive? You’re married now. Stop fussing over these details.”

“He never said he likes me,” Song Yan suddenly turned serious. “Isn’t he the one trying to take our daughter away?”

“Hey, consider your son’s feelings too. How sad would he be if he knew you were fighting over your daughter and not wanting him?”

It seemed Lu Qi had grasped the core issue.

Song Yan grew anxious. “That’s impossible. He’s our son too. I just want to train him more. He hasn’t presented yet, but if he’s like Yucheng, he needs to be able to endure. Besides, big brothers should protect their little sisters.”

“What kind of logic is that? Aren’t sons and daughters the same?”

“How could they be the same? My daughter is my little sweetheart. She must be a popular little princess.”

Lu Qi sighed. “That’s too much pressure on the children. I suggest you two talk it out properly. Otherwise, when he comes back to work, you’ll see each other every day. Are you going to discuss the children’s issues here?”

“That won’t happen. Work is work, and I don’t plan on letting him come back to work. It’s too tiring.”

“I’m not so sure about that. Assistant Bai seems unexpectedly stubborn.”

As expected, Bai Yucheng was indeed stubborn, just as Lu Qi had said.

“What gives you the right to decide whether I go back to work or not? And our daughter’s matter isn’t for you alone to decide. I carried and gave birth to both of them.”

Seeing Bai Yucheng like this, with that stubborn look in his eyes like a bull, Song Yan grew angrier. “Then why did you agree to marry me?”

“Huh? Wasn’t it because you took advantage of me?”

“Me?” Song Yan grew even angrier at the accusation. “Were you unwilling?”

“If it weren’t for you, my identity wouldn’t have been exposed, and I wouldn’t have gotten pregnant.”

“Fine, so you’re unwilling, is that it? Then let’s get divorced.”

Hearing this, Bai Yucheng became more convinced that Song Yan’s novelty had worn off. He gritted his teeth and said, “Fine, if you want divorce, let’s divorce!”
