Chapter 24: Was He Your First Love?

Song Yan indeed felt a bit frustrated. He knew nothing about Bai Yucheng’s past. Now, some former neighbor had shown up, making him feel somewhat inferior.

Bai Yucheng, however, didn’t mind these things. He gently took Song Yan’s hand and said, “What do you want to know? I can tell you everything slowly.”

Song Yan, who had been so impressive at the annual meeting earlier, now looked like a big dog. At home, he had yet another expression when taking care of their child.

How could this man be so multifaceted?

“I want to know everything about you,” Song Yan embraced him. “Tell me all the details, even about when you studied jewelry design.”

Bai Yucheng sighed softly, “Those are all history. How could I possibly recount everything?”

Song Yan didn’t move, still holding him, even though the front seat of the car was a bit cramped.

“Come on, it’s so hot. Get up and drive.”

The big dog grunted softly, “I’ve been drinking, so I can’t drive. I called for a designated driver from here. They’ll be here soon.”

Hearing this, Bai Yucheng suddenly became flustered, “Hurry up and get off me. What will people think if they see us?”

“What’s there to be afraid of? It’s just our own driver.”

“That’s still not okay!”

“Yucheng.” Song Yan called him seriously, “Do you like me?”

“Huh?”

The question caught Bai Yucheng off guard—was this an appropriate time to ask such a thing? Who would marry and have children with someone they didn’t like? He really couldn’t fathom what went on in Song Yan’s mind all day.

But Song Yan’s expression was very serious.

They cleared up their misunderstandings recently, and their relationship became much more harmonious than before. But there was still one thing that bothered him: why did Bai Yucheng never say he liked him face to face?

And now, seeing that person—a neighbor? That meant they were childhood sweethearts, right? Men always had a special feeling for their first love! Now, that person clearly came to seduce Bai Yucheng! With the first love back, there might be some rekindling of old feelings.

“So, do you like me or not…” Song Yan looked up pitifully.

“…”

But Bai Yucheng’s face turned red, and he couldn’t bring himself to say it. This really wasn’t the right time or place for this!

“Boss Yan.”

The designated driver arrived.

With an outsider present, Song Yan immediately switched to his CEO mode—his face instantly became composed, and his voice deepened slightly. The man who had been cuddling and whining to his spouse moments ago seemed to vanish.

However, his hair was already slightly tousled from nuzzling against Bai Yucheng, looking a bit odd.

The driver, of course, was professionally trained and wouldn’t laugh at such a sight. He opened the car door and took the keys.

Song Yan pulled Bai Yucheng to the back seat. Bai Yucheng found it somewhat amusing but still held his hand, interlocking their fingers. After settling in, he reached out to fix Song Yan’s hair.

He whispered, “Your hair is all messed up.”

Song Yan felt a bit dazed under his gaze, unconsciously grasping his hand and asking once more, “Yucheng, do you like me?”

Bai Yucheng nodded with a blush, “Alright, the driver is still here.”

“I just want you to tell me…”

“We’ll talk when we get home. Stop fussing.”

Song Yan wasn’t sure if Bai Yucheng’s blush was from drinking or admitting he liked him. He still felt a bit uneasy, but Bai Yucheng kept holding his hand without letting go.

When they arrived home, the elders weren’t there. They left a note—they took the two children to Song Shilan’s hometown to visit their grandparents and would return later. This was clearly meant to give the couple some alone time. Cheng Tian always had informants reporting on their situation, and it wasn’t even New Year’s Eve yet. It was good for the children to visit their grandparents, and they were well-behaved now.

The atmosphere between the two was still a bit stifling. These days, although misunderstandings had been cleared up, they were mostly together with the children. There were few opportunities for them to be alone.

At the company? Of course, work came first. Both Song Yan and Bai Yucheng disliked mixing personal and professional matters.

Song Yan made him a cup of tea, “Drink this. It’ll warm your stomach.”

“Thanks…”

“Want to watch something?” Song Yan smiled, “Or do you want to shower and go to bed?”

“I’d like to listen to that instrumental music you played last time, the one for putting the kids to sleep,” Bai Yucheng glanced at him, “It was quite nice.”

“Then go take a shower first. You can sleep right away if you get tired later.”

“Mm, okay.”

Suddenly, Bai Yucheng felt like they had returned to when they both lived in that small apartment, before they knew about the children, naturally being together like this. A peaceful life was indeed good.

Thinking of Luo Chengyi, Bai Yucheng still felt a bit uncomfortable—that person was indeed the first person he liked. Luo Chengyi was different from him. He liked to try all kinds of things, not just jewelry design, but also scriptwriting.

And himself? From the beginning, he had only loved polishing those jewels.

“I can make your jewelry famous worldwide and create touching stories for your jewels.”

That was Luo Chengyi’s final promise. But thinking carefully, he rarely fulfilled his words. Why did he believe him so much back then?

This was one of the things Bai Yucheng couldn’t understand. It seemed he was also a dreamy kid at that time.

Song Yan was completely different from him.

At first, when Song Yan said he would take responsibility for him, Bai Yucheng thought he had misheard. Who knew he would actually do the same things every day—teaching him at work, buying groceries, and cooking at home.

“It seems being practical is better,” Bai Yucheng mumbled to himself, smiling at the thought of Song Yan’s silly behavior.

Song Yan saw Bai Yucheng come out with a smile, feeling a bit puzzled, but went to shower anyway. When he came out, he found Bai Yucheng already under the covers, waiting. “Mom just messaged, saying they’ll be back tomorrow morning.”

“Did they take everything the kids need?”

“They said Grandpa and Grandma’s place has everything.” Bai Yucheng said softly, “Won’t it be too crowded?”

Song Yan smiled, “Grandpa and Grandma’s house is even bigger than here. They usually travel, and the house is mainly used to care for some elderly from my dad’s company. They’ve hired a few people.”

“That’s so nice…”

“Well, they’ve dedicated most of their lives to the company.”

“But when everyone goes back for the New Year, won’t Grandpa and Grandma be lonely?”

“Haha, not at all. Although they’re nearly 80, they still love trying new things. They organize small activities at home, inviting parents from the company to bring their kids to repurpose old items. The kids love it.”

Bai Yucheng smiled, “Aren’t they tired?”

“Not at all. They have endless energy.” Song Yan said as he slipped under the covers, turning on the small speaker and adjusting the volume.

“I can’t imagine living to 80,” Bai Yucheng leaned against Song Yan. “It’s nice that Grandpa and Grandma still have the energy to do meaningful things.”

Song Yan held his hand again, “Honestly, Yucheng… do you still want to make jewelry?”

“Hmm…” Bai Yucheng leaned on him, “Saying I don’t want to is partly avoidance, but now… my fingers don’t feel the same as before.”

“It’s okay, take it slow. How about making simple little things for the kids?”

“Mm… that could work.”

Chatting quietly like this, the two cuddled together like two little cats. When the topic turned to their children, they both switched on a strange mode, starting to brag about their daughter and son.

After some time, Bai Yucheng felt a bit drowsy and yawned. Song Yan hugged him, pulled up the covers, and whispered, “Yucheng, that person today, was he your first love?”
