Chapter 26: The Couple Finally Reconcile, Happy Ending

Bai Yucheng’s face grew hot, feeling too embarrassed to look at Song Yan. Although Song Yan made no movement and just gazed at him across the table, his stare was intense enough to burn him.

During this time, they had both been incredibly childish. Bai Yucheng recalled how he had been looking for a new place and planning to take the children back, while Song Yan hadn’t said anything, quietly helping out instead. Compared to Song Yan, he felt he had acted more unreasonably.

He felt both ashamed and awkward.

“I… I was…” He wanted to say something, but his mind was in chaos, unable to form any appropriate words.

Song Yan suddenly let out a sigh of relief, finding his flustered Mrs. Song rather adorable. “Would you like to go for a walk outside?”

Mrs. Song nodded, mumbling a quiet agreement.

The temperature was quite low. Bai Yucheng wrapped himself in a gray scarf, half his head hidden – he was somewhat sensitive to cold. Still, he curiously eyed the colorful lights decorating the property.

“They’ll turn them on later. We’ll be able to see them from our second-floor room,” Song Yan said, taking his hand, which felt cold.

Bai Yucheng moved a little closer to him.

“Will the wetland park be too cold?” Song Yan held his hand tightly. “Why don’t we check out the kindergarten in our area instead? Although it’s not open yet, residents can take a look.”

“It’s cold.”

Song Yan hummed in agreement. “Then let’s go see the kindergarten for our little ones.”

He chuckled, “It’s still early for that.”

“Children grow up fast.”

“It still takes time,” Bai Yucheng turned to look at him. “Besides, we can’t stay at our parents’ place forever.”

“True, our family of four will need to establish our own home eventually.” Song Yan took a deep breath and said with a smile, “We’ll have to choose a good location and house then.”

“I’d like to be closer to the company. It’ll be easier to pick up the children before and after work.”

“Mm… There are quite a few people with children at the company. Why don’t we follow your grandparents’ example and set up a nursery at the office?”

Bai Yucheng thought for a moment. “We would need to survey how many people would need it, hire caretakers, and it might not work if the children’s ages vary too much.”

The two continued their discussion as they entered the kindergarten. Bai Yucheng found the small slide adorable and was quite satisfied with the environment.

Song Yan had another idea. “It’s nice for the children here. Why don’t we set up our own home here too? It’s close to our parents. We could invite your parents over as well. It’d be nice to have everyone together.”

“Are there any smaller units here?”

“Yes, over there.” Song Yan glanced towards the south. “It’s closer to the wetland park.”

“It’s a tough choice,” Bai Yucheng looked in the direction Song Yan indicated. “Setting up our own home is challenging.”

“Not really, it’s just…” Song Yan whispered, “With the children around, it might affect our alone time.”

“You…” Bai Yucheng scolded him softly, “Behave yourself.”

“Mrs. Song,” he said in a pitiful tone, “I’ve been starving since we got married…”

Not just words, he hooked his index finger with Bai Yucheng’s, slightly lowering his head. He slowly leaned in, gently pressing his forehead against Bai Yucheng’s, gazing at him warmly. Bai Yucheng felt a bit embarrassed but didn’t pull away – it was comforting, even though they were standing in the garden.

“Let’s go back, I’m cold…”

His voice was soft, the implication crystal clear. Song Yan held his hand as they slowly walked home.

Back in their room, Bai Yucheng took the initiative to embrace Song Yan. They didn’t lower the curtains, just holding each other like that. One of them, it wasn’t clear who, started swaying side to side. Standing so close, it was impossible to tell whose heart was beating faster.

Afterward, the two rocked back and forth like roly-poly toys.

Sounds came from downstairs – their parents and children came back. Apparently, they bought something fun as they were laughing happily. They still didn’t stop. Song Yan asked softly, “Mrs. Song, shouldn’t we go downstairs?”

“Mm.” Bai Yucheng nodded, but his face remained buried in Song Yan’s shoulder. “I know…”

“When did Mrs. Song become so clingy?” He gently pulled away, looking at his partner tenderly.

Bai Yucheng let out a soft hum. “It’s not like I’ve never been clingy before.”

When he was pregnant, wasn’t he clingy every day? He gently pushed Song Yan away and wanted to see if there was anything he needed to prepare.

When the two children saw Bai Yucheng come downstairs, they both reached out to be held. Song Yan, watching his wife and children – three adorable beings – felt extremely proud. He quickly helped his mother-in-law sort out the newly bought clothes and snacks. The sharp-eyed Cheng Tian naturally understood that the young couple had reconciled. She quietly advised Song Yan to be careful not to give the children too many snacks, emphasizing that main meals should be the priority. She mentioned that the children were sleeping more now, but they should still play with them during the day to help them sleep better at night.

“Mom, I’m planning to buy a house here. We’ll need your help when the children start kindergarten.”

His mother thought it was a good idea. “That’s fine. Ask your in-laws, too, and let them come over. It’ll be convenient for all of us to be together.”

“Yes, that’s what we were thinking.”

She smiled, “You need to be more attentive in coaxing your wife. Don’t throw childish tantrums anymore.”

Song Yan felt a bit embarrassed and nodded sheepishly, “I know.”

“Oh, and your father mentioned one of Yucheng’s former classmates who doesn’t seem like a good person. You need to be careful.”

He was referring to the ex who showed up uninvited today. Song Yan sneered, “I won’t let him near Yucheng.”

Lin Mei saw the mother and son chatting animatedly and didn’t interrupt. Instead, she helped Bai Yucheng with the children.

On New Year’s Eve, the whole family had a lively dinner. The parents were all supportive, discussing the couple’s plans to buy a house and talking about the children.

Song Shilan was satisfied with his son’s sense of responsibility. Although there had been a period of adjustment, things were finally good now. “We’re happy to help, but you should raise your own children. We can’t compare to their real parents.”

“I understand,” Song Yan agreed sincerely. He was already planning how their family of four would start their new life together.

A family of four, celebrating the New Year for the first time.

Song Yan held Bai Yucheng’s hand, their wedding rings never having left their fingers – even during their argument. He nuzzled Bai Yucheng’s face.

“Happy New Year, Mrs. Song.”

He smiled softly, leaning against Song Yan and whispering, “Happy New Year, Mr. Song.”
