Everything happened too suddenly. Lu Heng was pushed to the ground before he could react.
The pressure on his neck increased. Lu Heng tilted his head back and grabbed the attacker’s wrist.
The light by the elevator was on. The attacker’s back was against the light, casting layers of shadows on his face, revealing a vicious expression.
It was Wu Chong.
Apparently, Wu Chong still held a grudge after being fired, so he had been waiting for him to get off work.
Feeling suffocated from the choking, Lu Heng cursed inwardly. He forcefully raised his leg and slammed his knee into Wu Chong’s lower body.
Wu Chong let out a muffled groan. His grip loosened for a moment but quickly pressed down on Lu Heng’s shoulders again.
A stronger wave of pheromones hit him. Lu Heng couldn’t make out the specific scent, but the smell was so overwhelming he could barely breathe.
It was a very unpleasant smell.
“Fuck you, you bitch, how dare you fire me.” Wu Chong snarled through gritted teeth, one hand gripping Lu Heng’s shoulder while the other reached for his head, pushing it to the side. “You’re just an Omega, who do you think you are…”
Before he could finish cursing, Wu Chong’s face suddenly changed, the color draining from it rapidly.
The scent of lime spread out, quickly overpowering the Alpha’s unpleasant pheromones. This scent didn’t carry the typical Alpha’s oppressive feeling, yet it seemed to suck all the air from the surroundings, making it hard to breathe.
Wu Chong soon struggled to breathe, all strength leaving his hands. Lu Heng swatted away Wu Chong’s hands and kicked him in the chest, sending him flying two meters away.
Wu Chong lay on his back, curling up on his side, his hands clutching his neck tightly, looking very much in pain.
Lu Heng stood up and slowly walked toward Wu Chong, the crisp sound of his shoe soles hitting the floor echoing in the dim hallway.
The lime scent grew stronger, spreading in all directions down the hallway. What should have been a refreshing scent now felt like the entire space was on fire.
Lu Heng’s face darkened. His nape was burning hot as if on fire, but pheromones kept pouring out from there.
This feeling was so familiar, just like last time…
He could fight back with his pheromones, but he couldn’t control them well. Last time at the supermarket, Jiang Yunxing helped him, but this time he was alone.
While he still had his rationality, he needed to deal with Wu Chong quickly.
As Lu Heng approached, Wu Chong felt fear rising in his heart, but he still tried to sound tough. “What’s wrong with your pheromones? Put them away! Don’t come any closer!”
Lu Heng didn’t speak and didn’t stop walking.
Wu Chong’s aggression wore away with each step Lu Heng took, finally replaced by fear. The pain from the pheromones directly stimulated his brain, as if it would kill him the next second.
He lay on the ground, repeatedly backing away, pleading, “Don’t come closer, please don’t come closer. I know I was wrong, I’ll never dare to do this again…”
But Lu Heng seemed not to hear Wu Chong’s voice. He stopped in front of Wu Chong, his entire body hidden in the darkness where no light reached. Wu Chong couldn’t see his expression, which made his fear even worse.
He needed to knock Wu Chong out first.
Lu Heng raised his foot, about to kick Wu Chong’s head when he heard a “ding” from behind as the elevator arrived.
Wu Chong jumped up as if he’d found a lifeline. He shoved Lu Heng away with all his might and sprinted toward the elevator.
Already struggling to control himself, Lu Heng stumbled from Wu Chong’s push. He steadied himself against the wall, but by the time he looked up, Wu Chong had already rushed into the elevator.
The elevator doors quickly closed. Lu Heng’s vision blurred as he slid down the wall to sit on the floor.
This outcome was fine too.
Lu Heng frowned in discomfort. In the darkness, the heat at his nape grew increasingly distracting. As his body relaxed, every inch of his skin felt like it was on fire. He pressed his legs together, unconsciously rubbing them as an uncontrollable moan escaped his lips.
He wanted…
Just as his last thread of reason was about to snap, Lu Heng struggled to take out his phone and searched for Jiang Yunxing’s number through his blurry vision.
It wasn’t ten yet. Jiang Yunxing was still in class. Calling would be useless.
Lu Heng opened the message box, but his hands were shaking too much to type. He could only use his remaining strength to tap randomly a few times.
After sending the nonsensical message, Lu Heng let out a breath and collapsed onto the ground.
He curled up on his side and reached down with trembling hands.
–
After parting with Lu Heng, Jiang Yunxing spent the entire afternoon in low spirits.
The Jiang Yunxing in the book was rather withdrawn. The only person he had good relations with was Lin Yao. Although he didn’t make any enemies in his class, he was just on normal terms with his classmates.
He had no friends. This was something he had in common with the original Jiang Yunxing.
The first few days, classmates had invited him to lunch, but after he declined several times, the invitations stopped. Now he sat quietly at his desk, and no one noticed his unusual mood all afternoon.
He thought about Lu Heng all afternoon. More accurately, he thought about Lu Heng every day, just more so today.
Although they met at noon, his longing grew even stronger.
Lu Heng’s embrace, Lu Heng’s kisses, the heat of Lu Heng’s hands trailing over his body. Every scene was vivid in his mind.
It fascinated him, but also pained him.
Lu Heng did these things not because he liked him.
It was only because their pheromone compatibility was 100%. There was no other reason.
Lu Heng needed him to treat his condition, nothing more.
If this setting had been applied to someone else, Lu Heng would have gone to that person instead.
Jiang Yunxing slumped onto his desk, glumly running his hands through his hair. Even breathing hurt.
He felt he was being too sensitive. Being able to stay by Lu Heng’s side and having a setting that bound them together was already fortunate enough. Why was he still hung up on these things?
Just like Lu Heng said, why not stop thinking and just go with the flow?
Why couldn’t he do that?
His phone vibrated gently. Jiang Yunxing snapped back to reality, his heart racing.
There was still some time before school ended, but the last hour was self-study. The teacher was just sitting at the podium keeping watch, not looking up at the moment.
Jiang Yunxing glanced at the podium, then secretly lowered his head and took out his phone.
Sure enough, it was a message from Lu Heng. The worried expression on Jiang Yunxing’s face instantly turned into joy, but when he opened the message, he only saw a jumble of random characters.
Something wasn’t right.
Jiang Yunxing frowned slightly and sent a message asking what was wrong, but he received no response, even until school ended.
As soon as the bell rang, Jiang Yunxing stood up. He was the first one out of the classroom and called Lu Heng, but there was no answer.
Something might have happened to Lu Heng.
With this thought, Jiang Yunxing quickened his pace and rushed out of school to hail a taxi.
It was late after school, and many private cars were parked outside. The taxis that came by were all pre-booked.
Jiang Yunxing tried to hail a cab while calling Lu Heng. After three unanswered calls, his palms began to sweat.
“Jiang Yunxing, what are you doing here?” A familiar voice came from behind. Jiang Yunxing turned around to see Zhou Qi and Lin Yao standing behind him.
Zhou Qi continued, “Are you trying to get a taxi? Aren’t you going home?”
“…” Jiang Yunxing pressed his lips together and looked at Lin Yao. “My brother isn’t answering my calls. I want to check on him at his company.”
Zhou Qi looked confused. “Your brother? Who?”
Jiang Yunxing didn’t respond and turned back to look for a taxi. After their three-way conversation last time, Jiang Yunxing hadn’t spoken to Lin Yao again, pretending not to see him when they met.
He didn’t want to have much to do with Lin Yao now.
He still couldn’t get a taxi. Jiang Yunxing grew increasingly anxious and walked a few steps forward. Finally, an empty taxi stopped in front of him. He happily stepped forward to ask, only to be told it was already reserved.
Jiang Yunxing stepped back, almost deciding to run while trying to hail a taxi, when he heard Lin Yao’s voice again.
“Zhou Qi, call another taxi. Let Yunxing take this one.”
Jiang Yunxing turned around and realized Zhou Qi and Lin Yao had followed him and were standing right beside him.
Zhou Qi hesitated, looking unwilling, but since Lin Yao had spoken, he could only reluctantly let go of the car door he was holding.
Jiang Yunxing got into the car and glanced at Lin Yao. “…Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” Lin Yao said with a smile. “Take good care of him. I still need his help.”
–
Jiang Yunxing rushed to Lu Heng’s company. He checked with security first and confirmed that Lu Heng hadn’t left yet.
He had been to the company before, and the security guards were familiar with him, so he got permission to enter without much trouble.
As the elevator slowly ascended, Jiang Yunxing grew increasingly anxious. When he was just one floor away, he caught the familiar scent.
It was Lu Heng’s pheromones.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, Jiang Yunxing dashed out, immediately overwhelmed by the intense lime scent that clouded his vision.
His mind blanked for a moment before quickly clearing, and he saw Lu Heng collapsed on the floor not far ahead.
Another scent mingled with the lime, making Jiang Yunxing’s breath catch as he ran to Lu Heng’s side and crouched down.
“Ge?” Jiang Yunxing called out, supporting Lu Heng’s arm to help him up. “Ge, are you okay?”
The pheromones kept assaulting Jiang Yunxing’s senses. He tried to stay calm, but seeing Lu Heng’s current state still made him draw in a sharp breath.
Lu Heng’s entire body was burning hot. His sweat-soaked hair clung to his face. His clothes and pants were partially undone, with traces of fluid on his hands.
The pheromones signaled to Jiang Yunxing that this Omega was in heat.
“Suppressants…” Jiang Yunxing mumbled, shaking his head to clear it as he checked Lu Heng’s pockets. “Did you not bring suppressants?”
Lu Heng let out a grunt and tackled Jiang Yunxing to the ground, biting his mouth without warning.
His strength was overwhelming, like a predator with captured prey. Jiang Yunxing soon tasted his own blood and reached up to cover Lu Heng’s nape, which was frighteningly hot.
Lu Heng seemed to have lost all reason and couldn’t hear anything. His hands roamed wildly over Jiang Yunxing’s body. Jiang Yunxing turned his head to avoid Lu Heng’s mouth and grabbed his hands. “Ge, Ge! Let me give you a temporary mark first…”
Lu Heng struggled to break free from Jiang Yunxing’s grip, clearly not hearing his words. Although Jiang Yunxing couldn’t match Lu Heng’s intensity, he was still an Alpha. He released his pheromones, letting them merge with Lu Heng’s. When he noticed Lu Heng relax slightly, Jiang Yunxing flipped their positions.
There was no time to hesitate. He aimed for Lu Heng’s neck and bit down. Lu Heng’s body instantly stiffened as the pheromones slowly entered his gland. Jiang Yunxing felt the person in his grip gradually calm down.
The marking lasted for a while, and the strong lime scent faded a lot. Jiang Yunxing slowly raised his head, noticed Lu Heng’s flushed face, and very lightly pressed his lips together.
Lu Heng’s eyes were still unfocused, and his breathing was unstable.
After a long while, he finally returned to normal and turned to meet Jiang Yunxing’s gaze.
Those eyes were hidden in the dark environment, their emotions unreadable, but his gaze remained fixed on Jiang Yunxing’s face.
After a long moment, he narrowed his eyes slightly and said, “…Fuck.”
