MRSSG Chapter 11 – The Marriage Problem
by RaineSorry for the delay.
On Sunday evening, Ying Huaiting examined Hu Hu’s human ID card. The ID card was identical to regular human IDs, and Hu Hu’s information could even be found online, confirming its legitimacy. This meant they could go to the civil affairs bureau on Monday to get their marriage certificate.
As he thought of this, Ying Huaiting absentmindedly combed through the large tail resting on his lap.
Hu Hu’s large tail grew sleek and glossy under the brushing, putting him in a good mood. He said to Ying Huaiting, who was still studying his ID card, “Are you planning to use my ID card to marry me? But this is only a temporary ID valid for four years. It’ll be taken back after college graduation, so our marriage will only be valid for four years. Ying Huaiting, we need to think of another way!”
Ying Huaiting: “……”
It felt like a bucket of cold water had been dumped over him.
Ying Huaiting stopped brushing the fox tail and said coolly, “Why didn’t you mention this earlier?”
Hu Hu’s freed tail wagged lazily. “You never asked!”
He then pounced onto Ying Huaiting.
Sniff! Sniff! Sniff sniff sniff!! So delicious!!
Ying Huaiting tilted his head slightly but didn’t stop Hu Hu from sniffing him. Instead, he opened the Supernatural Network and searched: [How to prevent a monster’s human ID from being revoked.]
Hu Hu continued sniffing while peeking at Ying Huaiting’s phone.
The results showed: [After supernatural beings receive human ID cards, they undergo review every five years! The ID will be immediately revoked for any illegal behavior. For college student supernatural beings with temporary IDs, they must reapply after four years. However, if they graduate with excellence, they can directly exchange it for a permanent ID card.]
Hu Hu puffed out his chest, his ears twitching vigorously. “I’m excellent! Ying Huaiting, our marriage will be valid for more than four years now!”
Ying Huaiting remained silent. Although Hu Hu was an indecent fox spirit, he was surprisingly diligent in his studies. Being an excellent graduate shouldn’t be difficult.
But Hu Hu was still a monster. After some thought, Ying Huaiting searched: [How do supernatural beings marry humans?]
The search results showed: [Humans wanting to marry supernatural beings need to obtain two marriage certificates. The first is issued by the Supernatural Management Bureau. Humans must first obtain a supernatural being certificate from the bureau, then apply for a marriage certificate. Although this certificate has legal effect, it holds no binding power over humans.
The second is issued by the human Civil Affairs Bureau. After supernatural beings obtain valid long-term human IDs, they can get a marriage certificate using their human identity. This certificate has legal effect but holds no binding power over supernatural beings.]
Ying Huaiting glanced at Hu Hu in his arms and reached out to flatten the fox’s perked-up ears, sighing, “It’s so complicated to get married.”
Hu Hu’s fox tail drooped as well. He sighed, “It really is! How can humans get supernatural certificates when you’re not supernatural? Ying Huaiting, are you going to give up? Do you know you’d be giving up an incredibly beautiful fox spirit?”
Ying Huaiting showed no reaction to Hu Hu’s self-praise. “Who said I’m giving up? Let me see your supernatural certificate.”
Hu Hu got up from Ying Huaiting’s body and retrieved his supernatural certificate.
His ID photo showed a sleek little fox, taken in middle school. Gender: Male. Below was a string of supernatural identification code.
Hu Hu said, “Look at mine. If you apply, what kind of supernatural being would you be?”
Ying Huaiting’s attention was immediately drawn to the little fox in the certificate. He smiled, “You were quite cute when you were young.”
Hu Hu frowned, his large tail sweeping across Ying Huaiting’s face. “Is this the time to discuss whether I was cute as a child? Besides, you can’t call a fox spirit cute. You should say handsome or beautiful!”
Hit by the large tail, Ying Huaiting simply moved it aside and stared thoughtfully at Hu Hu’s supernatural certificate. “It doesn’t require specifying the type of supernatural being. In that case, couldn’t I just use my own photo on the supernatural certificate, mark gender as male, and get assigned one of your supernatural identification codes?”
Hu Hu was somewhat convinced, but—
“There’s no binding power though.”
Ying Huaiting said, “Even in human marriages, people cheat. The real binding power comes from us, not the certificate.”
Hu Hu moved closer to Ying Huaiting’s face, examining him carefully before saying seriously, “Ying Huaiting, we foxes are very faithful after marriage. Do all humans cheat in marriage? Are you going to cheat too?”
Ying Huaiting held back his words and pushed Hu Hu to sit properly in the chair beside him. Facing Hu Hu’s questioning, he first flicked the fox ear before responding, “I said there are some who cheat, not that everyone cheats. How did you hear that? I won’t cheat. Why would I leave behind a silly… beautiful fox spirit to go cheat?”
Hu Hu’s face reddened. He really was a beautiful fox spirit! Although there was an inexplicable “silly” added before it, probably a slip of the tongue, but Hu Hu could pretend he didn’t hear it.
Even the stubborn Ying Huaiting admitted he was beautiful!
When foxes got shy, their eyes tended to dart around. Hu Hu’s sharp eyes caught sight of his supernatural certificate on the table. As he reached to put it away, a faster hand snatched it up. “I’ll keep this.”
Hu Hu pouted and suddenly buried his face in Ying Huaiting’s chest. This time he didn’t feed on yang essence, just nuzzled his face against Ying Huaiting, saying shyly, “Ying Huaiting, you’re so lucky to have a fox spirit like me as your partner.”
His fox ears twitched vigorously, and promptly got flicked again.
It hurt a bit this time, and Hu Hu complained unhappily, “What was that for?”
Ying Huaiting said calmly, “Your twitching ears were annoying me.”
Hu Hu thought Ying Huaiting was being super childish, but since he wanted to keep hugging him, his fox ears quickly folded into airplane ears. No more twitching!
Ying Huaiting stroked the fox tail contentedly. “We’ll take a day off tomorrow. We’ll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau in the morning and the Supernatural Bureau in the afternoon. A clingy, shameless fox like you can’t be left alone for even a moment.”
Hu Hu, thick-skinned as ever, didn’t mind at all. “Say whatever you want. If I’m a shameless fox spirit, then you’re a shameless fox spirit’s husband. In short, a shameless husband.”
Ying Huaiting: “…” There wasn’t any excitement at all about being called husband for the first time.
