TATLC Chapter 15 – Egg Pancakes

After he finished talking with Lu Lin, Chen Xiaomi watched as Lu Lin went off to cook.

Chen Xiaocai slipped over and asked, “Da-ge, what did that guy say to you?”

Chen Xiaomi had just received stolen goods from Lu Lin and felt somewhat uneasy. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust his brother, but rather he felt there was no need to tell his brother about such matters and cause him to worry.

“We just discussed plans for going into town tomorrow.”

Chen Xiaocai looked at Chen Xiaomi with some dejection, feeling that his big brother had changed. Ever since Lu Lin became his brother-in-law, he wasn’t as close to him anymore. However, Lu Lin’s excellent cooking skills made it difficult to dislike him.

“That’s all?” Chen Xiaocai asked.

Chen Xiaomi nodded. “That’s right.”

This wasn’t Chen Xiaomi’s first time delivering goods to town. He was quite familiar with the process.

Lu Lin looked at Chen Xiaomi and hesitated before asking, “Why don’t I help you carry some meat?”

Chen Xiaomi glanced at Lu Lin, frowning slightly. “No need. Just don’t complain about being unable to walk halfway through.”

Lu Lin: “…” Husband authority? What husband authority? Chen Xiaomi thought so little of him as a husband. However, walking to town would take about two hours since the distance between the village and town was a bit far. That’s why villagers rarely went to town, and when they did, they usually took ox carts.

Lu Lin felt he needed to improve his image in Chen Xiaomi’s eyes, but he genuinely wondered if he could manage the walk.

Since they were heading to town, Lu Lin woke up early to prepare breakfast.

He took some wheat flour from the convenience store.

Lu Lin added some water to a bowl, cracked an egg into it, then added chopped green onions, flour, and a pinch of salt before mixing it into a batter. He poured some oil into the pan and added the batter. The batter quickly formed shape in the pan, and when it looked ready, Lu Lin flipped the egg pancake to cook the other side.

Soon, a fragrant and tender egg pancake was ready.

Lu Lin continued until he had made seven pancakes before stopping. Each pancake used one egg, so he used seven eggs in total.

If the villagers saw Lu Lin cooking this way, they would probably be outraged. The villagers all lived frugally, and eating eggs so extravagantly was considered luxurious.

Lu Lin hid three pancakes on top of the counter in the convenience store so they could eat them on the road if they got hungry.

Chen Xiaomi had never seen such pancakes before and quickly devoured them.

“These pancakes are delicious. What are they made of?” Chen Xiaomi asked curiously.

“Eggs,” Lu Lin replied.

Chen Xiaomi licked his fingers, still savoring the taste. “Eggs again?”

Chen Xiaomi looked at Lu Lin, feeling puzzled. The Lu family had more land than most and was relatively wealthy in the village, but did they really eat so extravagantly?

Lu Lin smiled and said, “You can often find pheasant eggs in the mountains. We can just go pick more after eating these.”

Chen Xiaomi pursed his lips and replied in a strange tone, “You’re so lucky. But if you keep collecting them like this, I’m afraid there soon won’t be any wild eggs left to find.”

Lu Lin thought to himself, We have been eating eggs rather excessively lately. At this rate, the two baskets of eggs will soon be gone. But on second thought, he figured there was still plenty of time before they ran out, so he could worry about it later.

Besides the egg pancakes, Lu Lin had also cooked some porridge. They each ate an egg pancake and a bowl of porridge before setting off.

The mountain path was rugged and difficult to walk on.

After walking for a while, Lu Lin felt a painful soreness in the soles of his feet.

Chen Xiaomi, however, seemed accustomed to it. He carried a large basket on his back yet still moved swiftly.

Lu Lin suddenly found himself missing his old car. He previously owned a second-hand Alto that cost him only thirty thousand yuan. The car was somewhat shabby, but it was enough for his daily commute.

After walking for more than half an hour, Lu Lin began to struggle.

Chen Xiaomi glanced at him and asked, “Do you want to stop and rest for a bit?”

Lu Lin’s lips twitched. Chen Xiaomi didn’t look flushed or out of breath at all. It was obvious he suggested the rest because of Lu Lin’s condition.

Lu Lin forced a smile and said, “Let’s keep going.”

Chen Xiaomi gave Lu Lin a meaningful look and replied, “Alright.”

Chen Xiaomi walked in front while Lu Lin followed behind. Lu Lin vaguely felt that Chen Xiaomi had slowed his pace a bit. Lu Lin had a strange feeling that Chen Xiaomi was being considerate of him, which brought a warmth to his heart. Chen Xiaomi might act tough, but he actually has a good nature.

Looking at Chen Xiaomi, Lu Lin suddenly said, “I brought two egg pancakes with me. Do you want one?”

Chen Xiaomi turned his head to look at Lu Lin and grudgingly replied, “Eat, eat, eat. Winter is coming soon.”

Despite his words, Chen Xiaomi snatched an egg pancake and ate it.

Lu Lin watched Chen Xiaomi, blinking his eyes. He had long noticed that this Shuang’er had quite an appetite. Although Chen Xiaomi already ate a lot in daily life, he was actually showing restraint.

“Why is it still warm?” Chen Xiaomi asked.

Lu Lin answered without thinking, “I kept it close to my body.”

Chen Xiaomi cast a sidelong glance at Lu Lin, and it wasn’t clear whether he believed him or not.
