Rumors about Chen Xiaomi finding wild ginseng spread throughout the village and eventually reached Chen Xiaomi’s ears.

“Did you tell people I found ginseng?” Chen Xiaomi asked.

Lu Lin nodded. “Yes, I can’t let the Lu family know this silver has anything to do with me.”

The Chen family had already been dealt with, but the Lu family was another matter. From the time Lu Tong came looking for him to work, it was clear that he couldn’t give the Lu family any impression that he earned this money.

Chen Xiaomi nodded. “That’s fine then.”

Chen Xiaomi agreed with Lu Lin’s approach, but still… “Aren’t you afraid people will say you’re living off me?”

Lu Lin smiled. “It doesn’t matter.” Reputation was something you couldn’t bring with you when you were born, nor take with you when you died. What really mattered was how you lived your life.

Chen Xiaomi looked at Lu Lin, thinking he was a bit strange.

After the house was repaired, Chen Xiaomi went back into the mountains.

Lu Lin followed and planned to dig up some yams to store.

Lu Lin crouched on the ground and took out his usual dagger for digging yams.

As soon as Lu Lin pulled out his dagger, a cold voice rang out, “Hand it over.”

Lu Lin’s heart sank as he turned toward the voice, only to discover it was Chen Xiaomi.

Lu Lin frowned. Chen Xiaomi had clearly left just now, but somehow came back without making a sound. His footsteps were too light.

Lu Lin tensed for a moment before quickly calming down.

“Hurry up and give it to me!” Chen Xiaomi said sternly.

With no choice, Lu Lin handed the dagger to Chen Xiaomi.

Chen Xiaomi took the dagger and swung it lovingly, saying somewhat smugly, “It’s mine now.”

Although Chen Xiaomi’s tone was domineering, Lu Lin wasn’t angry. If anything, he found it kind of cute, like a kid proudly showing off a new toy.

Lu Lin didn’t mind that his dagger was snatched. He had several similar daggers in his convenience store.

The dagger was light and thin. Chen Xiaomi had never seen such finely crafted work before.

Chen Xiaomi looked at Lu Lin and asked, “Are you human… or some kind of ghost?”

If he wasn’t mistaken, it seemed like Lu Lin suddenly made the dagger appear out of nowhere. It definitely hadn’t been hidden on his body.

“I’m the husband you married into your family! Of course I’m human,” Lu Lin said with a smile.

Chen Xiaomi stood with hands on hips, looking at Lu Lin. “Can you keep producing food out of thin air?” He had been suspicious about the extra eggs and grain appearing in the house for some time. Chen Xiaomi thought that if Lu Lin could continuously produce food, that would be wonderful. He wouldn’t have to worry about going hungry during winter.

Lu Lin shook his head. “No, I have a store inside my body that’s filled with things. Once they’re eaten, they’re gone.”

Chen Xiaomi asked excitedly, “Does the store have lots of eggs?”

Lu Lin nodded. “About eight hundred eggs, but we already ate around a hundred.”

Chen Xiaomi’s eyes widened in excitement. “Did we eat a hundred since the day you married in?”

    Lu Lin nodded. “Yes.”

Chen Xiaomi looked at Lu Lin, thinking he was incredibly wasteful. This guy had only been married in for twenty-some days, yet he cooked five or six eggs daily. Even wealthy families in the village wouldn’t eat like that.

“You’re not the original Lu Lin, are you?” Actually, before Lu Lin married into the family, Chen Xiaomi had secretly gone to see him and thought he seemed like an honest person who wouldn’t mistreat his brothers. But the Lu Lin who married in was completely different from what he saw.

Chen Xiaomi had thought Lu Lin might have died once and changed his personality, but considering the beads and the heated kang, something seemed off.

    Lu Lin nodded.

“Where did the store come from? Were the beads from that store?” Chen Xiaomi asked.

Lu Lin nodded. “The store is from another completely different world. The bead was originally in the store.”

Chen Xiaomi snorted lightly. “I knew it.” Knowing the beads weren’t stolen goods, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

“What about the kang? Did you see it in a book?”

Lu Lin shifted his eyes and said, “Not from books here.”

“You used to be a scholar.”

Lu Lin nodded. “Yes, I studied hard for decades.”

“Did you become an official? Probably not, right?” Chen Xiaomi asked.

Lu Lin: “…” It was true that he didn’t pass the civil service exam, but that wasn’t his fault. The exam was too difficult to pass! It required not only talent but also connections.

“Looks like you failed.” Well, even if he didn’t make it as an official, being educated must still count for something.

    Lu Lin: “…”
