YPSSS Chapter 29
by RaineLiu Yutong was stunned for several seconds before he finally reacted, “What? You must have seen it wrong.”
The inspector clicked his tongue, feeling quite speechless that his 20/20 vision was being questioned. He simply handed over the booklet, “See for yourself. Isn’t this what’s written here?”
Liu Yutong looked closer with the mindset of “this can’t be right, they must have written something wrong,” but sure enough, he saw blue text printed on one of the pages:
Name: Xia Shiruan
Gender: Male Omega
Age: 23
Origin: C City
…
Liu Yutong flipped through the pages back and forth. The other pages listed other members of the Department of Particle Physics, all familiar faces. He even saw his own name. Without exception, everyone’s gender was marked as “Male Alpha.”
In comparison, Xia Shiruan’s “Male Omega” stood out glaringly, like it was bolded and capitalized.
While it had been strange enough that Xia Shiruan was a Beta before, having an Omega among Alphas was a completely different matter. Not to mention that the Department of Particle Physics hadn’t had any non-Alpha members for decades.
And of all people, this was Xia Shiruan, the top student in the department…
No, no, no.
Liu Yutong felt his mind spinning, even worse than when his computer crashed while coding and turned everything into gibberish.
Many thoughts raced through his mind, but he finally managed to say, “That’s impossible. He’s a Beta. I’ve known him since freshman year… There must be a mistake here?”
The inspector scratched his head, “That’s even more impossible. I didn’t write this. It’s exported directly from the national system.”
Another classmate was also dumbfounded, craning his neck to look at them but saying nothing.
They speculated several possibilities.
“Forget it,” the inspector said as things got more and more bizarre. It was getting late, so he tucked away the booklet. “Figure it out among yourselves. How can labmates not know if someone’s a Beta or an Omega? What kind of classmates are you…”
Liu Yutong looked at him awkwardly.
This wasn’t about being good classmates!
“I still need to register other labs,” the inspector said, turning to Huang Yun, “That student over there, are you finished writing?”
“Done,” Huang Yun answered calmly, walking forward to return the form.
Compared to others, Huang Yun was remarkably calm, almost unnaturally so.
After the inspector left, Liu Yutong still couldn’t calm down. While suspecting something must have gone wrong, because the world couldn’t possibly be this bizarre, he kept muttering “holy shit” under his breath.
“Stop freaking out,” another person said. “Why don’t we just ask Xia Shiruan directly?”
“No way, just ask him directly?? What if there’s a mistake? Wouldn’t that be super awkward?”
“…” The person pointed at their phone. “Sorry, I already asked.”
Liu Yutong: “…”
This classmate wasn’t even friends with Xia Shiruan, so they had asked directly in the lab’s group chat.
It was already 2 PM when Xia Shiruan saw the message. At first, he only noticed a small notification in the bottom right corner and thought it was just a general announcement, so he didn’t pay much attention or immediately check what it was about.
Later, when he had time to look, he found the group chat was eerily quiet.
Finding it strange, Xia Shiruan scrolled up. It didn’t take long before he saw a message from a classmate who rarely spoke, asking him directly:
“Xia Shiruan, are you really an Omega???”
“Don’t misunderstand, it’s because the Student Union people came by today with forms, and we saw it in the registry…”
Xia Shiruan held his phone, stunned for a moment, understanding where the weird atmosphere in the group came from.
So that’s what happened.
He took out his ID card and looked at it, thinking, perfect timing.
Without overthinking it, Xia Shiruan quickly typed his reply: “Yes.”
One simple, blunt word.
The silence in the group was immediately broken by this word, first with many ellipses, then with a lot of question marks.
Xia Shiruan could understand their shock at discovering a Beta classmate they’d known for years was suddenly an Omega. He’d anticipated this reaction, but he had no intention of explaining further.
It might become a topic of discussion for a while, but as long as he didn’t make any statements about it, it should blow over quickly.
He hadn’t explained when he first transformed because he found it troublesome to tell everyone individually, but he couldn’t think of a good way to notify everyone at once.
After all, making an announcement in a group chat of hundreds of people saying “Hello everyone, from today on, I’m an Omega” would be strange no matter how you looked at it.
Now that someone had asked, it saved him the trouble.
However, Xia Shiruan had slightly underestimated how explosive this news would be.
What kind of school was Science University? The country’s top science and technology university.
This meant the gender ratio across campus was terrifying. People used to joke that if you dropped a brick on Science University’s campus, out of four people, three would be Alphas, and the remaining one would be a Beta.
As for Omegas? What are you talking about? Did Science University even have those?
The Department of Particle Physics had an inherent barrier against non-Alphas, making it extremely rare for other genders to study in this major.
Xia Shiruan’s former Beta status had been like a huge label plastered on his back in this community. Combined with his quiet yet sharp personality, it awkwardly placed him in an unfavorable position.
Being a Beta had spared him some inconveniences but brought other troubles. Many people would size him up and gossip about him, none of it positive.
A discussion thread quietly appeared on Science University’s campus forum, escalating from “hot” to “boiling” in just one afternoon.
Title: You might have seen a Beta in Science University’s Department of Particle Physics, but have you seen an Omega?
Main post: You definitely have, because they’re the same person.
1L1: What the hell, this makes no sense. What riddle are you trying to tell?
2L: What’s this about? Just say it straight.
3L: A Beta in the Department of Particle Physics? That can only be Xia Shiruan, right? He’s doing his PhD now.
4L: I know him, the one who wins national awards every year. He’s famous, even we in the Department of Chemistry know about him.
5L: Omega? What dream is OP talking about? Forget the Department of Particle Physics, show me one Omega in all of Science University. I’ve been here three years and never seen one.
…
15L: Insider passing by. Apparently that Xia Shiruan from Department of Particle Physics is an Omega now…
16L: ?? The person upstairs, don’t leave, explain yourself clearly.
17L: Caught an informant, please tell us more.
18L: I’m 15L. Don’t know the details, but I heard from a friend in Professor Lu’s lab. The Student Union came to register today and found Xia Shiruan’s gender was marked as O in the registry. Someone asked him directly in their lab’s group chat, and he confirmed it himself.
19L: Holy shit…
20L: ?
21L: …??
22L: To be honest, Xia Shiruan is pretty good-looking, so being an Omega isn’t that surprising.
23L: …I still need to ask, is there proof? Anyone can make up stories about what their friend said.
24L: There’s proof. I saw screenshots of their group chat, it’s real.
25L: Show the screenshots then
26L: Can’t post them publicly, DM me if you want to see.
…
78L: I came here planning to call OP an idiot, but after reading… well… the impressive one isn’t OP
79L: I still don’t get it. So this post is saying that this Xia Shiruan, who was top of his class in Science University’s Department of Particle Physics, and is now doing his PhD in Professor Lu’s lab, was originally a Beta but is now an Omega, right? Can someone explain what’s the issue? Why do you all seem so shocked?
80L: The person above is either playing dumb or from another school fishing for reactions.
81L: Replying to 79L, getting into Science University’s Department of Particle Physics is already super hard, and Omegas’ mental power averages only 30% of Alphas’. I’m not looking down on Omegas, just stating facts. Hardly any Omega would study something like photonic equipment that requires extensive data analysis, but Xia Shiruan being top of this major means his brain puts others to shame… I have to say it: Department of Particle Physics Alphas, you’re useless!
…
181L: After reading the above comments, I have a theory. Could it be… he was always an Omega? Pretending to be a Beta to get into university, working hard to achieve an impossible dream?
182L: 181L must watch too many trashy dramas. “Pretending to be a Beta”? Don’t be stupid, university entrance physicals are super strict now. You can use suppressants, but you can’t fake blood tests.
183L: How would an Omega fake being a Beta? I’ve only heard of Betas pretending to be Omegas by using synthetic pheromones. But even Omegas don’t use that stuff anymore, it smells too strong and awful.
184L: Just responding to 183L about synthetic pheromones smelling bad – you just haven’t found good ones. The well-made ones smell amazing, better than designer perfumes that cost tens of thousands.
…
289L: After all this discussion, has no one noticed something? Xia Shiruan was a Beta in undergrad and only transformed in grad school, meaning he was at least 22 when he presented. Isn’t that a record? He must be a top-tier Omega!
290L: I looked it up, the latest recorded Omega presentation was at 23… that person became the Commander of Institute 463, you all know who I’m talking about.
291L: If you ask me, why is he still doing a PhD? He should just go home, get married, and have kids. Someone like him would be in high demand.
292L: Slowly typing out a ? How does Science University still have toxic Alphas like 291L? You only dare say this because Science University barely has any Omegas. Try this at other schools and see if you don’t get torn apart…
293L: LOL, is 291L from the Department of Particle Physics? Your entire department got owned by an Omega, embarrassing yourselves to high heaven. Why don’t YOU go home and get married?

- In Chinese online forums, particularly those structured like bulletin boards, comments are often referred to as ‘floors’ (楼, lóu). Each comment or reply is considered a ‘floor,’ with the first comment being the ‘1L/1st floor,’ the second the ‘2L/2nd floor,’ and so on. This terminology is commonly used in discussions to reference specific comments, as seen in the text where users refer to ‘1st floor,’ ‘2nd floor,’ etc. The original post or thread starter is often referred to as ‘楼主’ (lóu zhǔ), which literally means ‘building owner’ or ‘floor owner.’ This is equivalent to ‘OP’ (Original Poster).
